Actually I think that all intel macbooks ( including pro) 's airport card is 802.11g and draft N... the problem is that they cant advertise it, because n is still in draft status at IEEE... so you can't really say hey this is an N... because N doesn't really exist as a satandard ( making a standard is a lenghty process takes about 5 to 6 years for the whole process...) if anyone has a draft n wifi router, please try and check the conection speed on you mactel macbook.. would be good to know if this is just a rumor, or if its really a fact.. i know i read it before buying my blackbook.. but alas.. i dont have a n draft router...

When the Airport Extreme came out it was before G was approved, they later flashed it up to the standard because it was close.

There are many Pre-N routers out there. All you have to say is 'Pre-N' and you're good to go.

Well, you're ambitious, I'll give you that :D

As mentioned above, why not try and create a simple web page, see how that goes and how well you take it in (try HTML and CSS to start with). Then decide if it's feasible to take on a project of that scope yourself, or whether it will work out more cost and time effective to hire someone.

Personally, I think it would take you 3-6 months to do it (finger in air guess) from scratch.

It's a damn shame about not being able to boot off more than one volume that is on the 1880 controller as I ultimately wanted to have 2x 240GB 6G mercury drives each with a different OS in pass through mode, now it looks like I will go for a slightly cheaper SATA2 SSD for the Win 7 install since it will be off the onboard controller.
There's not that many SSD's out yet that can exceed a 3.0Gb/s controller (most reach sustained sequential throughputs of ~250MB/s or so, and 3.0Gb/s is good for ~270 -275MB/s), so you don't need to panic over this.

I suppose I could still RAID0 2x 240GB 6G Mercury drives and use bootcamp to install on a 240GB partition dedicated to Windows 7, but this would be a riskier setup since I would loose access to both OS if the RAID0 played up. The Mac would not have trouble booting two OS off a partitioned RAID0 volume would it?
You won't be able to do this. :(

Boot Camp doesn't work with RAID (hardware or software). So you'll have to use a single disk on the ICH (no need to run the Boot Camp utility, as it's a partition tool). The BC disk does include Windows drivers however (setup.exe), so you may need to run those, particularly for wireless drivers.

You can place the OS X disk either on the ICH or RAID card (flash the firmware, set the disk as the boot location).

The mercury drives do sound reliable though, do you think a RAID0 with the 2x new 6G Mercury's is viable option? Or should I get those RAID edition Mercury drives, what makes them more suitable for RAID anywhere?
The only difference between them is the amount of over-provisioning (additional capacity used for wear leveling; 7% for the Pro series, 28% for the RAID Edition series).

There doesn't seem to be any other differences (same controller and firmware timings from what I can tell). Both have been used successfully in stripe sets on both the ICH and hardware RAID cards. So if you're doing more reads than writes, the Pro series would be fine. If you're going to do a lot of writing (massive amounts of data), then the RE series may be the way to go. Another trick, is not to fill the SSD up all the way.

Nanofrog, could you please tell me what is the special cable that I need to get to use the 2nd SFF-8087 internal port on the Areca 1880 to connect an external enclosure?

Hint: To do anything with a file, most operating system functions will want the complete path. That might be something like "/Users/freeme007/testFile" or "/Users/freeme007/Documents/testFile".

And for the times a complete path isn't needed, something called the working directory is used:
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Working_directory

So how would you discover what the path of the program's current working directory is? Hint: NSFileManager has a method for it.

Next, how would you tell Xcode to use a specific working directory when running the program? Hint: Xcode has a Help menu with search capabilities. Try searching for working directory.

Great News. I stay cautiously optimistic since he said "finishing", so that would seem to imply that they have a working exploit, it's just a matter of packaging.

Any idea if this is the same exploit as comex was using? and if it's a tethered or untethered jb?

Since he mentioned i0n1c's exploit, I would assume it will be an untethered jb for 4.3.1. Sorry bella. We're speculating :)

I am shocked to see how popular these are becoming. Personally if I got one it would only be an addition to my computers not a replacement for my MBP. Like having the optical drive at my leisure and the better computing power. But then again I do working the IT field. I could easily see how they meet the average consumers needs. None the less I want one.

In my experience I just want one source that will familiarize myself with a particular API, just to let me know what's available and the common classes and uses. Then from there it's just a matter of reading the documentation to work with the specific uses I have in mind. For objective-C it was the first few chapters of Hillegass, then for iOS it was the Stanford Courses on iTunes U, and for cocos2d it was this book.

The thing with programming books is that they become outdated pretty quickly, so the documentation is going to be a better place to find information. What I do find useful about programming books is to point me in the right direction to get started. For example with cocos2d I learned the basic building blocks CCNode, CCScene, CCLayer, CCSprite, CCDirector. Then once I knew those classes existed, I knew where to look in the documentation to write my own code.

I can't resist reporting this article, because it contains this sentence that you don't see very often:
"Surprisingly, Howe said, their inspiration came from cockroach legs."

Rather than build a robotic hand that could avoid mistakes while grasping a variety of objects, researchers build one that can correct mistakes on the fly, which is what humans do.

Despite its four-fingered form, the resulting hand has several human characteristics. At rest, its joints are opened from 25 to 45 degrees, and the joints at the base (our palm) are more flexible than the joints of the fingers. Dollar also added sensors to detect when a finger touches an object and the angle of the joints. While the hand automatically adjusts for many small errors, the sensors enable it to compensate for larger miscues.

The result is a very simple hand that can grasp a wide range of objects. It could become a platform for future household and service robots, where the ability to grasp different objects is important.

You don't need it you are correct. I'd need to do a comparison to really find out what the difference is. From what I've been able to find out it seems the active DI is best for instruments w/ active pickups like some basses & acoustic guitars. The guys from Radial say their units allow for a wider dynamic range if I understood that right....whereas some cheaper passive units clip off some portions of a hot signal. The J48 is both passive & active (via phantom power). I'm still trying to sort all this out.

Those aren't buttons. those are circles showing you where the touch sensitivity is.

I think people are misinterpreting the diagram.

A video iPod with touch-bezel will still look like this:

Thank you for pointing this out. Saves me having to do it. The interface would look very sleek. Of course, with some of the functions, a lot of less saavy users would definitely need to read that instruction manual, or be initiated by some other user.

I am! I figure with launch on a Friday they'll have enough in stock to last the weekend since they wouldn't be able to get more until at the earliest Monday.

Prob be a line but not terrible since it's a suburbs store on a weekday rush hour launch

    Thoughts? Anyone else going?

Black or White? I was set on black but now leaning white, may have to see in person

Actually I have 3 T-Mobile phones, each has GPS for use in E-911. Its a new federally mandated requirement.

Unless a different e911 came out I don't think that's true. All e911 required is that positioning information was available - it didn't require a specific technology. It differentiates between handset and network technologies but accepts both.

GSM networks do it by cell tower triangulation, a network technology, not GPS, a handset technology.

So those of us that are still using 3gS's (that are on their last leg) should prolly go ahead and get a 4, and then wait for the 6...

Not so awesome news, I shoulda got a 4 a few months back then, oh well, maybe I'll wait to see what the white 4 looks like if its released on the 26th...

I am still using a 3g, how do you think people like me feel ??

I store an archive of my RAW files as DMG images of my memory cards on a large 1TB drive.

I keep a subset of those (keepers) as my working images in my Aperture Library on my system drive.

    For 2010...

My RAW file archives consumed about 300GB, which is shooting an average of 1000 pictures per month or so (25MB per RAW image).

My Aperture Library consumed 138GB, which as you can see, is a little less than half of the pictures I took.

If I was you, I would plan on using an External drive to archive your RAW images to, and selectively importing only the ones you feel are "keepers" into your desired photo management application on your system drive. Even if you import all the photos from a shoot to your management app on the system drive, you can later prune it down to keep the size of your working library reasonable.

Periodically, you can also archive your photo management library to an external drive and start a new one on your system drive when it starts to get full.

The bottom line is that with some proper image management, and a large external drive, you can essentially get by with nearly any size of drive on your laptop... it's size will merely dictate how often you need to archive things to your external, which of course, also depends on how much you shoot.

VPC is great for compatibility with easy-on-the-processor Windows programs (small database apps and the like), but if you want to play any sort of modern game, you won't get any kind of decent performance with VPC. I've heard of some people playing games from years ago with success, but as many will tell you, don't even bother to try .. it's just too slow.
