Agree with Nattress or Compressor solutions for conversion to PAL. Can use Flip4Mac to convert to avi.

Get the MacBook pro. When you need more disk space, get a nice fast external Thunderbolt disk (they'll be just as fast as internal disks on the MacPro).
The new MBP machines are really fast - coming up to the speed of my 3 year old 8 core MacPro.
Then buy an iMac in a year by which time it will have Thunderbolt too - and use your external drives on that.
Sound plan! Honestly, I am convinced that I will buy an MBP early next week. Maybe tomorrow? I am leaving the Windows camp for awhile. Disclaimer: my laptop is three and a half years old and has served me well! A few times I have traveled out of state, but it mostly was treated as a desktop replacement.
Yes, Thunderbolt will be unbelievable fast! USB ?.?? LOL I cannot imagine the time that will be saved when backing up two to four 1 TB drives. I am excited to purchase an Apple computer! Since I am armed with knowledge form this thread, I will buy either a base 15" or the high end 15." The 17" MBP is awesome and my current laptop has a 17" screen, but IMHO, the MBP 17" is pricey. Although, I have been known to contradict my initial thoughts regarding an expensive purchase. ;)
Damnit, now I have to study! :D

This is weird...I've been using Google's DNS servers basically - which are considered as the fastest in my area - does that really affect Apple downloads?
I don't know whether it affects Apple or not but I remember reading about it here in NZ where people were being directed to US servers instead of NZ ones. The speed difference between our domestic and international bandwidth is huge.

I have a 2006 mini I use as an HTPC, the fan is louder than I'd like it to be but it's running at a normal RPM so there's not much I can do about it. My sister has a 2010 mini and I noticed it's much quieter than mine, nearly silent. So I was wondering if anyone knows if the fan model used in the 2010 would work in a 2006?

So you cant really touch the front of this thing coz it will do something...... I cant really put it in my pocket, especially if the hold button isnt physical...
There could still be a physical hold button. The drawing only shows the front face, not the top or bottom. Obviously the headphone jack and dock port will be on the top or bottom. What's the point of a hold button if it isn't physical anyway??

It was 10 days before my second year of Community College classes were to start. I was in bed, just sort of waking up when my dad called to me to see what was happening on the TV. I was thinking from his reactions that what was happening was another Oklahoma style bombing or something (at that point I still had not made it to the living room and seen anything on the TV yet). Well my thoughts were quickly changed after seeing the first few minutes of the coverage

[QUOTE=globalhemp]iPhone to "borrow" from Disney Mobile's (http://disneymobile.go.com/) GPS Enabled Family Locator(TM)
http://www.globalhempstore.com/images/disney-mobile-family-locator.jpg
Yeah and Disney is shut down the service after 8 months with little or no interest in the service. And is going to cost them $30 million to shut it down. As a Disney and Apple sharehold I think it is a bad business model to be in.

Hi
Quick question. i recently bought a macmini to act as a media centre (more than happy). My Father in Law is impressed with set up and wants the same BUT he wants more capacity on the HDD. He has seen a refurb mini server with plenty of HDD space which he is tempted by but keeps asking me what the downside to having one of these over the standard version will be. He isnt fussed for the DVD drive as all his files are downloaded.
Can anyone quickly give reasons why he should/shouldnt go for this? He will not be usingit as a server but only to get the extra specs.
Hope someone can help or point me to where I can get the info on the difference.

My roommate is a PC fanatic. He's an engineer, yet he still uses IE instead of Firefox for crying out loud. All of his purchased music is from MusicMatch, and he plays it on the cheapest player he could find.
He recently got a new computer and tried to get his MusicMatch songs to play on it. He has now devoted a couple hours every afternoon for 3 weeks to the project. In his weakened condition, I started showing him how my iTunes music could painlessly hop from computer to computer, and how if he used iTunes, he could stream all of my non-protected music. He was ready to cut his losses and switch to iTunes right there.
Unfortunately, iTunes songs won't play on his player so that was the end of it. There's no way he's paying more than $30 for a player, and there's no iPod that cheap. As a result, he'll never know how much better iTunes (and the rest of mac software) is. Apple had a chance to get their foot in the door, and instead they slammed his own door in his face.

Hello,
I have a Studiologic Numa which connects via USB. For some reason when I connect the USB cable it powers on the keyboard but mac does not recognize it at all, and Audio Midi Setup is useless when I ask it to rescan midi. This is a brand new macbook pro running Snow Leopard. Oddly enough, it works fine with my old macbook running Leopard. As far as I know my USB port works fine, as I've tried with both ports and they seem to work well with my external hard drives. I have also tried to change the USB cable to no avail
Any ideas?

I don't like the colors. And too much info, looks bloated.
I like the old one better, simple and clean.
