To the delight of many existing 5G owners, iPod Software 1.2 (included with iTunes 7) will provide capability to playback the increased resolution of new iTunes TV Shows, Music Videos, and Movies. The technical specifications of the 5G had originally stated the maximum resolution for h264 playback as 320x240 px.
How does that work? The movies have 640x480 resolution while the iPod has 320x240 screen. iPod specs-page specificly mention that it can play back those movies. So how does it work?

5K are refurbs. Ive had 4 5Ks now and they have been pretty bad. The first 2 digits of the serial start with 5K.
Yes, Apple will replace it, trust me. I have gotten mine replaced 3 times for yellow tint on the screen. Call the Apple store first, and talk to them.
Just go in there and tell them that it gets worse while watching movies, or in low light rooms, and they will def replace it.
Edit-I'm not saying to lie, but from my experiences with light bleeding, they DO get worse in low light rooms or when the phone gets hotter from watching videos, ect.
Yea, I do notice it getting worse under low light conditions. I'll call them ask beforehand though. Thanks for the help!

Looking at buying my first mac and looking at a mini. I listen to a lot of music on high quality speakers attached to my pc, so I'm wondering if there's a sound quality difference between the MBP, the iMac and the Mac Mini.
Any help you can give me would be appreciated.
Thanks.

var browser=navigator.appName
var b_version=navigator.appVersion
var version=parseFloat(b_version)
if ((browser=="Safari"||browser=="Konqueror"||browser=="Microsoft Internet Explorer")
&& (version>=0)) {alert("Your browser environment is not fully supported!")}}
Stick an alert in your code to test the return value of navigator.appName, or in your case the 'browser' variable... you should find this is actually "Netscape" for the Safari browser, hence your problem.
check out the Safari FAQ (http://developer.apple.com/Internet/safari/safari_faq.html)
hope this helps!

I have a video that i recorded back in October with my iPhone 4, but for some reason now it won't play. It says "The movie could not be opened. The file is not a movie file. I have tried a bunch of different corrupted video repair software programs....i got one to convert a little bit of it (you have to pay over $100 to get the full converted video.) While the video is a nice short little video, it isn't worth $100 to have it ...however, is there another way to fix these? i know it helps to have a video that is a reference video shot around the same time, which i do. if anyone has any suggestions, i would greatly appreciate it.

I had just finished grad school in June and had taken my first real, full time "adult job" as a teacher. The attacks happened while I was in class, so neither I, nor my students, had any idea anything was wrong. A few minutes after class, a student came by with eyes wide saying "The World Trade Center is on fire!" (his reaction was one of excitement ... of conveying big news). I patronized him but didn't believe him (the kid was, and probably still is, a bit of a troublemaker).
Then a student came to the office of a colleague (next to my office) with the same news. That's when I hit the web and found that I couldn't access any news anywhere.
My colleague and I conferred, and about 15 minutse later we heard someone say "The tower collapsed!" My colleague and I ran downstairs to the TV in the lobby -- that was when the horizon of the enormity of the thing first crossed our minds.
The rest of the day was spent between silent TV watching and comforting the kids who came to our offices.

Does it have a self-assigned IP when it drops out?
If so, try renaming your wireless network. This has fixed this issue a number of times for me recently.
No, it picks up its IP number from the Linksys just fine. And it keeps the wireless connection fine. For example, I can access the Mini from my MacBook Pro with screensharing just fine ... even after the Mini looses its internet connection.
Like I said, a strange problem ...

hmm..., I was in college back then.
I was sleeping when the first plane crashed. One of my roomates woke me up and said something like "wake up dude, I think World War III has just begun" (talk about a surreal way to wake up). When I got up the news guy was talking about an attack on the pentagon.
Classes had been suspended that day (due to a a bad storm that had flooded some streets), so we stayed all day at home glued to the TV in complete shock and disbelief.

Going from 2mb Ram to 4mb Ram is only $100. VERY much worth it in my opinion. The CPU upgrade is more debatable. And I'd go for 256gb on the SDD (128gb is a bit limited for today's standards if you plan on storing music and video).

Wouldnt go so far as to say we're no where close because geohot doesnt own an ipad 2. You think he's owned all of the other idevices he's jailbroken and unlocked? comex jailbroke his ipad 2 and he wasnt even in the US or remotely close to his ipad 2. If geohot is truly on the case, all he will probably need is the exploit comex used and he'll likely have no problem dumping the bootrom. With all his latest issues with sony, I'd bet he's more than ready for a positive comeback and more donation money :) not saying that he does it for money so dont start whinin. jus sayin
I not whining, but I'm not deluding myself either. How many tweets and news postings have we read about the 02.10.04 unlock?? We read it was coming out after the one for 3GS, then we read they were waiting for 4.2, then we read hasim had discovered nice baseband crashes, then we read about brute forcing the nik, and then guess what?? Still NO bands and unlock!!!! and these we're tweets from Muscle Nerd and others. The only real unlock came in the form of hardware solutions or the factory unlock solutions, something no one would have imagined would have come out before the dev-teams release.
And Comex's jailbreak was a user land one, so I doubt that would help with a boot rom exploit, so ****.

What are the chances of the latter? In a similar thread was made. One of the replies was something to the effect of, "Fat chance... wait until 2011!".

Aristo, as much as I'd like to pounce on that offer, I feel inclined to suggest you instead set up a SlingBox instead. You surely must have a family member in the states whose TV you can set this up on. The iPad app seems great, but you are confined to viewing on a 10" screen. With a slingbox you can view on your iPad, iPhone, computer and TV. I live in NYC and have a sling box set up at my father's house. I watch HDTV on my 40" Samsung -- On Demand and all that jazz -- for free.
The iPad Optimum is just an auxiliary service I want to set up as an alternative (and on a different TV, with a different cable plan, and in a different county--different programming).

Would a Thinkpad T30 work? It's got 512MB RAM, 40GB HD, DVD/CDRW/Floppy hot-swap drives and a base station, along with a power cord or two (I have 4 but I doubt you'd need more than 2)
Let me know!

I sold my iPad 1 which was jailbroken on 4.2.1. Since buying my iPad 2 the jailbreak is biggest thing I miss. I'm staying on 4.3 until we know which version the jailbreak will work on!
Same here. Sold my jailbroken iPad 1 and bought an iPad 2. I missed my jaillbroken apps.
...Waiting patiently for the jailbreak.

Hi guys,
There's been an influx of analyst opinions recently... so we decided to try to track analyst predictions using the wiki. I had thought about a more automated system, but I think the wiki might actually be easier.
Basically, the ideal is to create a wiki page for each analyst who comes out with predictions about Apple, list their predictions, dates, and in the end if it comes true or not.
Any strong opinions on the names of the articles? I think it should be individuals rather than company names, since it seems the predictions come from individuals more consistently
Examples:
Analyst_Charles_Wolf
Charles_Wolf
Charles_Wolf_(Analyst)
Predictions_Charles_Wolf
etc...

I live in the San Jose area in California. Our local news station just reported this morning that Apple Stores won't have any iPhone 4's available for walk-ins on launch day (tomorrow).
I take that news with a grain of salt, as I haven't heard anything about this from more credible sources (ie. MacRumors or AppleInsider). Also, I believe Apple would've announced this earlier to avoid a mini-riot from the people already waiting in lines.
Has anyone else heard of anything like this?

Yep, but is it ethical to tax him at 90?
First, 90 was a number I chose just to make a point. Second, I think it's a gradient. Ideally, most of everyone's income should stay with them, people who make very little should be able to eat, have shelter, and the ability to move upwardly should luck and hard work reward them. People who make a great deal should pay, but not because of who they are, but rather because of their finances.
It probably wouldn't, but taxing him through the nose doesn't fit with the idea of rewarding success. Perhaps a better approach would be to incentivise charitable donations and working with charitable organisations.
Success is, I would argue, its own reward. Progressive taxation still rewards those at the top, who only pay higher taxes on their increases. Even when we had very high taxation rates at the very top, we had robber barons creating and destroying companies to enrich themselves. Lowering that rate hasn't created a manifold difference in the amount of overall wealth.
Historically speaking, the post-WWII period in the US featured a huge growth of the middle-class, a growing business and financial industry, major technological jumps, and all with a higher rate of taxation.
This indicates that growth and the middle-class are not inextricably linked to the fortunes of the wealthy. I'd argue that rewarding the wealth while punishing the middle-class is foolish and far more worrisome .
