Hi, new to apple products here. Purchased the 4th gen ipod touch and I'm concerned about protecting the front and back. Would buying a zagg invisibleshield full body (front and back) and also pairing it with a hard candy street skin case work? Or do you think the zagg shield on the back would slip out when I try installing it into the case? Any feedback or advice is appreciated. Thanks
Hey there, welcome to the world of Apple. What you're suggesting is a very common practice. I did it myself.
But I think that spending more than $5 on an invisible shield is a waste of money so I got the Stealth Guard (http://www.stealthguards.com/index.php/mp3-players/apple-ipod-touch-4th-generation-full-body-protection.html) for free (just pay $2.85 for shipping) and then spend around $25 for a case you like. Or, if you are patient enough, you can get a $.99 case from China. It takes between 8-15 business days to arrive.
I recommend soft flexible cases if you're concerned about dropping it. When it falls, a hard case won't help much, it will actually give you more trouble picking it up because the case will fly 5 feet away from the device.
The Stealth Guard looks much better in the front than in the back of my ipT4. And I chose not to use the solution when applying it. Now, in the back I applied the solution and so far I'm not enjoying it.

Hmmm... now that you mentioned it, I don't think it has any jumper pins in it. I pulled it from an old Tivo box. What jumper does it need to have if I already have my main drive on SCSI?

What exactly do you think people will be doing on a TV? Using CAD??! It's a fine resolution for movies, browsing, music etc.
Why the hell would I want to waste space and money on something that gives me the same resolution as a monitor half its size. This is about computer displays, not family room displays.

I'm considering getting a new iPod. I have a 20 GB, non color iPod right now. I was considering a Nano, but I want more space so I can use the iPod to back up my home folder as well. But I'm afraid new, sleeker and slimmer iPods are just around the corner. I don't need somthing as tiny as the Nano since I tend to only use it in the car but I wouldn't mind a 60 GB iPod that was the size of a mini. So, buy or wait?

But I have another account with credit, I just use this account to download free apps because it is MY account and i've been downloading apps since a long time ago, I don't want to have money on it or a credit card.
I've sent an email to iTunes support, lets hope somebody does something about it, although I doubt it.
Recently they changed ToS, I think you have to have a card linked to your account to download, a valid one. I had the same issue, I recently had a new card sent to me by my bank, and I couldn't download anything from iTunes, free or paid, nor could I update the ones I already paid for on my iPhone!

It's not OS X or Snow Leopard problem.
Never experienced anything you mentioned here.
Sounds like you installed something that messed with the system.

I've always heard that the Zune was a good device, but Microsoft just did an abysmal job at marketing.
This is true. A lot of people are talking trash about the devices but I doubt anyone as ever used one. To me the UI was much more concise than the iPod, the hardware was very high quality (sound from the headphone port was far superior to what the iPod outputs) and the Zune Marketplace has a nice "recommended" music software. In the end, it was poor implementation and the Apple freight train that made the Zune fail.
I don't know why people are happy about this though. Do you really only want one music player in the market? No one wants a choice? How about competition? Competition is what drives companies to innovate. I really want some company to come out with a product that pushes Apple to an even higher level of innovation. So far no one has done it.

I still miss being able to customize the other Google apps on the top of the Google search page for iPhone.

I think creative commons is perfectly fine. I don't see the need to copy a lot from Wikipedia either and the content can still be used freely if you adhere to the rules of attributions... I think it's a good one to use.

Went to BestBuy today and had a sales person tell me not to buy a mini but get an imac........he said the speed was too slow compaired to the imac. Also that by the time I paid for mouse, monitor, keyboard I would have the same about of money invested. Just wanted some opinions?

The iTunes Phone Driver is for current Motorola phones not for the iPhone, you can read about it in the software update when it's installed, it was in the Software Updates as of a week ago.

Who was asking why MS has to lockdown Windows with an absurd level of protection via WGA? Here is your answer.

Well after always using a pc for my entire life and having to deal with their problems the last being a burnt MB way back in Jan '02, I started to look for parts to build a new PC. I guess it was fate that I didn't have the money to buy a PC and spend it on more necessary things like food, and rent. Well about mid June I started to just browse info on Mac's and was curious to try one. Well to make a long story short I went to the Art lab here in school and really liked them alot. So this past Dec. almost a year after not having a computer I bought an IBook 800 with much anxiety to say the least. Other then the lack of a good p2p program, I love the Mac. OSX kicks serious butt, I don't use OS9 since it just appears so outdated compared to how wonderful OSX looks and works. I read reviews saying to not use a G3 when using OSX, well I have no idea what was their complaint, cause my G3800 responds better then those crappy Dell's. Well not only did I see the light after informing myself on the Mac, my friends who were diehards pc fanatics (notice how I said were) finally got their hands on my book and liked so much they are now thinking about getting their own once they get the cash (though I envy them since I would love to get that 12" PB). Well that's it for me a new loyal apple customer.

Probably the S90 or S95 (whatever it is called). Gets glowing reviews.

as long at rubbish and microsoft are in the same sentence, its a good story
True, I hadn't thought of that. Unless the sentence goes "I found out Apple is rubbish, so I went back to Microsoft.:p
My question is, why are we still allowed to post in this forum, considering it is in the archives?

I am happy I got ubuntu Linux running under Parallels. It almost emulates the Lab version except for FPC not working correctly for compiling. But terminal works great using GPC. I should be starting on this tonight, with my Top Down Design.

As far as the guarantees go, this is what I see at negrielectronics.com (http://negrielectronics.com/apple-iphone-unlocking-service-permanent-solution.html) right now:
Your iPhone is now unlocked permanently!
Unlocked. Permanent. 100% Guaranteed or your money back*.
Your order may require verification. Please look for an email from us to further verify your order. This is a high fraud item and we take every precaution and approach fraud very seriously.
*(If the unlock is not successful, please email us a video link showing your IMEI and the unlock being unsuccessful).
**To deter possible fraud, we also reserve the right to remotely lock your device by IMEI
That's awfully tempting...they accept major CCs. You could always dispute the charge...
This is what is scary about this new unlocking avenue. Obviously someone has access to Apple's DB and from this statement, it seems like the access they have allows the to lock it. This means they could lock anyone's iPhone at anytime, even factory unlocked units. Even the carriers do not have this level of access. I was told by the Rogers unlocking team, that they could unlock but could not relock any phones...only Apple had that access. These unlockers have greater access to the Apple systems than the carriers do (already obvious, since they can unlock multiple carriers and the carriers can only unlock their own).

I'm going to skip the macbook air, until apple creates a hybrid macbook air/ ipad. It's obvious with Lion that they are starting to make a mac operating system that can be both used regular OS X style, but also switch to touch screen style. I sure hope they can pull it off and make a true hybrid OS, and not two nerfed operating systems strangely conjoined. It will be one of the hardest programming tasks apple has ever faced. Once they have a macbook air where you can rip the screen off and use it like an ipad, then reattach the keyboard (much like the new ipad 2 smart cover) and then use it like a laptop, they'll own the entire mobile computing industry.

I was watching the iMovie 11 presentation and I'm just curious about predictions to FCP 8, especially the interface. We can be certain of the technical improvements in media management and power -- multi-core, 64 bit. But from iMovie 11 I see
1. Totally integrated visual sound editing, live with all the tools from Sound Track Pro. Who wants to go out to a sperate application. No need.
2. Which means proper titling software is truly built in
3. And of course effects are now much simpler to apply and preview. Perhaps the left hand window is completely context sensitive -- effects, sound editing, or source footage -- with the ability to edit in that window with dragging a selection area and cut into the timeline
4. Of course there will be some sort of realtime compression as you continue to work. And the compression engine will be completely overhauled.
DVD Studio Pro needs a complete overhaul too and should support blu-ray authoring. Perhaps the bag of hurt is coming to Lion :-) But burners will be Thunderbolt external only, making it of use primarily to content creators protecting Apple's Digital Download model. But at least thunderbolt is fast enough to allow for the fastest blu-ray burners.
Anyhow, some of these changes speak to the rumor of a more consumer version. It will be MORE powerful than iMovie 11, but include live effects and powerful sound editing without having to exit the application, much like iMovie. Of course media management (final cut server) will be vastly improved and integrated into this one version. Enjoy!

I'm not using Corona SDK, but wondering about how it works. I saw the youtube vid on it and the code doesn't look like Obj-C, it looks like something more like c++ without ";" at the end.
Is this an engine that runs off a script? What control do you have over performance tuning? How does it intergate with regular iPhone app code, if you wanted to put code in your game that stopped and displayed an ad for your web site, could you do that?
Just based on the demo video, it looks like it would do great for simple games, but I would be concerned over level of control. If a game starts to do well, you might decide that you need to tweak it a certain way, I wonder if this allows low-level coding.
