why do you want to use asp.net and take the extra cost in sql server and windows 2003...
The main reason is that I already have a lot of .NET code that could be useful for web development. I'm not using windows or sql server though. I'm trying out Mono's ASP .NET and I've already ported some of my code to Mono and to MySql. But in spite of this, I don't have much experience with web apps so I would feel much better if I could take a look at what other people have already done. I have decent-enough skills to build the shopping cart, but I've no clue about security issues, so that I would like to learn.

I bought a new charger for this machine around a week ago and for some reason, the battery will not charge. I bought an aftermarket charger, entirely on the basis of costs due to my apple one dying after a good few years. The light on the button to open the lid of the laptop was shining for about 3 days, but has now turned off completely.
Whenever I try to charge the laptop with the new charger, the laptop makes a slight buzzing noise (It's quite hard to explain what it actually sounds like). Today when I inserted the charger, the laptop did emit the turn-on bong but then switched off about 3 seconds after wards.
If anyone has had a similar problem or knows of a cure, please reply below.

Does anyone have a facebook fan page set up for your photography? I never really considered setting one up before. Just figured the website would be sufficient, and email for receiving messages and etc. But, today, on a whim I went for it and set up an artist page. It's actually quite interesting, and a whole different experience from maintaining your normal photography site. Actually, since I'm in the beginning stages of a new site design, which will essentially be a restructuring from the ground up for how it is utilized, do you think it is best to leave the interaction side of things to facebook and let the website be more of a deep archive of the work, resume, etc?

What are the chances of seeing this on e.g. Windows anytime soon? It would really broaden the connections and usefulness of the quite neat piece of app. Anything new on this case?
Apple were going to make the Facetime protocol an open standard. Its up to others to pick it up. Personally, I'm surprised Apple haven't already made a Facetime app for windows.

We will see something similar to what happened last Fall? - Apple holding an event in september, then a couple weeks later another invite goes out saying "One More Thing..." like last year. and that event will be mid october or something?

I sure hope they hold another event. This one (well, the announcements-- I haven't watched the keynote yet) was kind of disappointing. I like the new version of iTunes, which is free, so that's good. The rest of the iPod announcements don't really interest me that much. I have a 40 gig iPod and no access to iTunes TV shows or movies.
Now this iTV thing sounds interesting but I'm not going to get too excited over a product prototype.
Call me crazy, but I would like Apple Computer, Inc. to release a new computer line.

I enjoyed this post immensely as well. As someone in the chemical/nuclear engineering industry, my clients always gripe and complain about corporate greed when big bad oil makes $10 billion in profit in a quarter, but when Apple does it everyone sings their praises as their money goes right into Steve Jobs's bank account and talks about how great it is that the money they've worked for sits somewhere cross-country in the form of numbers on paper.

And if my money is going to line someone's pockets, I'd rather it be someone who returns the favor by making my life more enjoyable rather than someone who will gouge me for a natural resource I need to transport me to the job to earn the money to pay for that natural resource, exploiting every war and rumor of war to charge me ever more for the privilege.

As evidence that some rich people didn't earn their wealth, you just referenced Enron that went bankrupt, Madoff who went to prison, and the Banks who we bailed out... and would have otherwise gone bankrupt. As far as "choosing" winners and losers, you seem fine with letting your vaunted "free market" do it; I happen to think that such a process is unjust if unalloyed with further means to prevent excess. The mere fact that a person makes a living and then some from the "free market" does not necessarily make them a legitimate "winner" with the strongest moral claim to all of their wealth. In fact, if you agree with the concept of taxation you already agree with this principle. Your "right" to anything is predicated on your ability to protect it, whether that be through legal processes, or through coercive force. Nothing in "Life, Liberty and the Pursuit of Happiness" specifically states that the top 1% of this nation ought own 50% of the wealth.
You are ignoring my point about how small cabals of wealthy and powerful people pay lip service to democracy and then do whatever they want - how is this somehow less of an injustice than the rest of us raising taxes on your beloved billionaires? Especially when you aren't one of them?
Finally, just because you have a legal or moral claim to wealth or property does not mean that you are the only person with a claim, or that your claim is the strongest. All Americans have a very strong moral and legal claim to being able to earn a living - but as wealth increases the moral claim weakens, to the point that the wealthiest people maintain much of their wealth not through any moral right but simply through their own ability to hang on to it. Your first dollar is very much yours - but your ten millionth is up for some debate.

i'm not sure if this has been covered already, but...
other companies being able to sell DRM'd content for use with the ipod = good for apple (sells more hardware).
other companies being able to use apple's DRM'd content on their devices = bad for apple (sells more software/content).
as always, apple makes money from hardware sales, not software. the at cost/loss leading software is there to lure people to the high margin hardware. this simple point often escapes people and leads to wild and inaccurate speculation.
