Is it definitely in the headphone jack of your Mac?

Once plugged into the TV, select the necessary AV input (there's probably a little symbol next to the inputs on your TV to let you know which one to select - it won't be an HDMI input).

Ensure the red and white phonos on your TV aren't actually outputs.

Check the volume on your Mac is turned up.

    What make is your TV.

I gave up using Aperture to manage facebook and flickr images. It was way too slow, and I sometimes had Aperture delete a picture on Flickr after I did some more edits. I'd lose all the comments and favorites it had attached to it, which are part of the fun of posting there. I went back to manually uploading using the Flickr upload program.

Exactly why I use Lightroom 3 for this and not the half azz'd implementation employed by Apple.

I like the new design. The only problem I have, is when I came to the site. The first thing I saw was a Microsoft ad!!!!! Scary!

The main problem I have is that there is a lot of wasted space between the banner ad and the rest of the page. On my screen it measures about 1/2" to the search box and over an inch to the top of the first news item. This means I have to scroll the screen to read the second article. I think you should put the search box next to the banner ad and move the whole of the rest of the page up to comperss it's vertical height. By doing this you can move the information up by over an inch.

I'm gonna get to the store at about 3:00. If there's already a big line (like more than 40 or 50), we'll wait in line. Otherwise, we'll go to play in the best store in the mall.

Specifying sizes in mm and inches would have to be the worst way to do web design. I have good eyesight so i want my webpages to be small, my parents have worse eyesight so they like to scale everything larger, their solution at the moment is to decrease the screen resolution, this is very crude on an lcd. When resolution independence becomes standard they will be able to make everything larger while still maintaining the default resolution of their monitor, but if everyone designs webpages in mm or inches then the webpages wont become bigger, completely defeating the purpose.

No, this is still a good thing. If web pages are designed in inches and millimeters, then your parents will not have to change the screen resolution to increase the size. Instead there should be a method of scaling the page so that it will be, say, 1.5 times bigger. After scaling, the page will still be as sharp as it is at the normal size. That's significantly better than reducing the resolution on an LCD.

Now this is dependent on this scaling method being available, but if Apple doesn't provide it you can bet somebody out there will come up with a utility to do it.

    Resolution independence has no downsides.

Storage is truly a subjective matter. From a long term perspective, it will all depend on your needs & how many images you shoot/ expect to shoot. Anything you do, should have a redundancy back-up, whether it be a duplicate HDD, DVD's or storage online. However, as has also been pointed out, there is no need for Black's/ 7200 drives, when it comes to archiving. Green's/ 5900's are quite sufficient.

The following is my own experience with how I needed to adjust for future growth:

When I switched to Digital SLR's in I invested in a pair of 500GB Seagate Free Agent External HDD's, to back up my images to. In I added a pair of 1TB Seagates in an External Enclosure, and configured them in RAID 1. This device is connected via FW800, and is blazing fast, where as the USB driven Free Agent's, seem to move at a snails pace, though they are USB 2. Up to this point my DSLR's only shot on avg an 8-10MB Raw File, so I wasn't burning through storage, all that fast. However, as newer tech has come out, larger files were inevitable. During the Spring of I added (4) 2TB Caviar Green's in a Gigabit Network Array (NAS), and configured them in RAID 10 (1+0), thus giving me 4TB's of Storage, that I can access from anywhere. During the Fall of I added the 5DMKII to my gear line-up, and well 25MB+ Raw Files, are consuming storage much faster than I had previously. I have since filled up almost 2TB's on the NAS. Aside from all the Storage Arrays, I also have a Mac Pro, and have 3 1TB HDD's in it. Two are linked together in an OSX Raid 1 Config, the other 1TB is purely a scratch disk for CS5/ FCP, with my other non 1TB being my OS.

Based on my experience, and knowing that I will be needing more storage space, more than likely by the Fall of I will be adding 3TB drives to the Mac Pro, and expanding the storage capability of the External Enclosures, with 3TB Drives. Relatively speaking storage is cheap, and its better to have too much storage, than not enough.

Thanks James, aka Eaton Photos. I cannot believe how many hard drives you have filled in a modest amount of time! It appears that I need to modify my HDD setup and backup plan, as I did not "factor in" a massive expansion when contemplating my HDD setup and backup plan. I thought I was being overzealous planning the use of one HDD.

You must have tens of thousands of photos, but your point being that one's photo library can grow extensively in a fairly limited amount of time and one should plan accordingly, noted!

I am reading about the different RAID arrays and which one's purpose is required for certain situations. I thought RAID was overkill for my needs, but I may be mistaken. Thank you Sir for sharing your knowledge! The photographers are quick to share knowledge and provide advice.

Well, I have learned a ton and I have to modify my plan in order to build the system I have envisioned.

Google ships not a single phone. It provides a free OS (from which it makes little money) to handset makers that sell phones. None of those handset makers sell a phone as popular as the iPhone, and all of them combined do not make as much money doing so. If one is comparing iOS (all devices) to Android (all devices), recent data suggests iOS is the more widely used.

According to Michael Moore, in a recent interview with GritTV (http://www.realclearpolitics.com/video/2011/03/02/moore_on_wealthy_peoples_money_thats_not_theirs_thats_a_national_resource_its_ours.html), any wealth a rich person has earned is not actually theirs, it's a national resource, it's mine, it's yours...

I watched the video and don't think that's what Michael Moore said.

He's not saying that the money in Bill Gate's bank account is a national resource, he's saying the wealth generated by our economy is a national resource and that there have been intentional political and business decisions that have concentrated greater amounts of our economic wealth into the hands of the rich.

    Don't you think that's true, 5P?

take it easy on them, they saved apple's ass in the 90's. if it weren't for them apple would have gone 'rupt. they also have to worry about a thousand different hardware configurations whereas os x 10 has to worry about the mac line.. give 'em a break. (not an ms fanboy)

    yeah!

come to think of it, if it weren't for them and their illegal/immoral practices Apple would be at 90% and linux would be the underdog and there would be no Windows, so....

    ...errrr, hang on, what?

Does the iPad sync both ways? For example, if I buy the camera connection kit and load pictures onto my iPad, when I connect it to my Macbook will sync go both ways, so the photos are added to my Macbook/not deleted from iPad?

(I'm buying one tomorrow.... soooooo pumped)

a photographer friend and I have a running debate on Epson vs Canon, and we have had both. I recently replaced my large format Epson for a Cannon Pro 9000 Mark II. I paid around $300 (there were some sales and a $100 rebate), although you can find some steals on EBay for mint never unboxed ones (there were some offers that have away the printer with the purchase of a certain camera back). I think I dropped around $800 for my previous Epson...

The 9000 is blazing fast, especially when compared to most Epsons which are notoriously poky. I can print a 13x19 in about 5 minutes, whereas my Epson took easily five times longer. The Epson seemed to chew through ink even when not printing... Startups, preprinting, calibration, head cleanings... But even that didn't stop the continual head cloggings. Pigment ink just tends to dry out and clog a lot more.... Especially if you are not running it every day. I had only had a job every other month, often I had to replace the cartridges... Making the per print price pretty darn expensive. It produced beautiful prints, but I also had to swap black cartridges depending on if I was printing on matte or glossy papers... Pretty lame.

The canon can go borderless at 13x19. It does drink ink at a frightening rate, but at least it does that whle printing, lol. Buy ink at Amazon, get it on a delivery schedule and you will save even more. I pay about half what it costs at staples for ink.

Need a real large format printer? Then I would probably say go Epson...
    Cheers,
    Michael

I bet sales of the whitebook have tanked since October. Only reason to buy a whitebook was because you could not afford a macbook pro. The air is even better than 13" MBP in everything but raw cpu power, and lack of some ports.

    I agree.

Tho I really wonder who is using Facetime? I know everyone talks about it like it's the greatest thing since sliced bread, but it's like the webcam on my mac, yeah it's nice to have when I call my mom across the country, but it's something I'd use about 0.01% of the time, and if I were going to use it, it's more likely I'd tell my mom to get on the computer and skype me on my computer to have full screen HD video chat...

I use FaceTime every other night to speak with my daughter.

Maybe someone here can shed some light on this problem. I am using DP2 and for some reason, preview wont forget files after they've been closed. All of the files in the list have been closed, but for some reason, they are still displayed in this list after they've been closed. I can click on them and they open like they were just minimized. Any ideas what could be going on here?
