I have 2 external hard drives, both OWC mercury elite pros. I initially wanted to use one of them as a time machine and the other as my backup for music, media, and the songs i record/my song ideas. However, a friend of mine who is a bit more experienced with recording has told me that i need a dedicated drive to record to. Thus, I should put GarageBand onto one of my externals so as not to use the system drive, he says. I'm not sure if this is even possible. I could get logic and put it on there, but, I'm not proficient enough with it yet to purchase it.
One of the drives is a 1TB and the other is 320g. Any advice as to what I can do? I was thinking if I can't get the software on one of them to use as a dedicated drive, then I could just stick with my original plan and run GarageBand off the system drive and save all my ideas/songs onto the external drive.
What do you all think?

Thanks to all for your helpful advice. Of course the one piece of info I didn't leave was that I am running OS9.2. The eject button works on the other CD-R drive, so the button is OK. I'll try OSX and see if that works - if not I'll check the cable, and if it's not that I'll take it to the doctor!
Any other bright ideas would be gratefully received!

Well, it looks like there will be alot of new features and devices soon from apple.
lets hope apple keeps up the good work, advancements in technology, software and hardware will continue making users lifes easier.
things like smart device/cell phones, itv media center hubs (also HDTV including Blu-Ray), continuing development of more software and making apple an all media type system where all aspects can work seamlessly.
looking forward to the new stuff apple comes with.

Centris 660av, PowerMac 6100, Performa 6116, Quadra 660av, same form factor. These have been desirable systems in the past, but good luck selling a machine with no hard drive.

Incipio has come out with a case similar to Speck's case for the MacBook Air. This case is actually more "thinner" than the Speck case (I have both) and seems to be more user friendly to me. You can view them both at the link in my signature.

It can be pretty tricky, as for orchestral stuff I often use LA scoring strings for strings, East West for brass and woodwinds and symphobia for weirder scoring tools.
As for everything else, there are a load of great Kontakt libraries available, from mellotrons to harpsichords, blues harps to clavs.
Basically I reckon there is no 1 library out there that does it all, so Komplete 7 is a pretty good place to start, you can always add more libraries to it as you go along.
What is your budget? LA scoring strings is over $1000 for instance!

Looked at MacBook air last week. First time hands on. It is a work of art.
Yep, it is beautiful and now cheaper. Flash memory is great for that kind of device. No wonder it is selling more. I've seen more or the new airs than any of the old ones.

Make sure you're using iTunes 4. Anything before that doesn't support AAC files. Once you have iTunes 4, go into the preferences, under the Importing button and choose AAC. As for the track names, it's not iTunes that recognizes it or not, it's the CDDB, a database which is accessed over the internet, meaning that your computer must be connected to the internet for it to pull up track titles and such. Good luck.

Sometimes happens to me with Flash plugin under Firefox, if I do anything that uses flash for an hour or two (like play a flash-based game) it'll eat up all of my 4gb of ram . It's just a problem with the plugin though, not Snow Leopard.

I agree with everything Talmy has said apart from the resolution. It isnt low resolution. In comparison to a 27" ACD, or 27" Dell Ultrasharp, yeh ok then its low. but Full HD resolution is good enough for you uses. I know an entire Design Company using AutoCAD and Alias, there isnt a single monitor there with better resolution than Full HD because they dont need it!!
For that price its pretty good!!

Well,
I've got a MS Wireless Desktop 1000 KB/Ms combo set FS....
It's only been used twice, once with my mac to make sure it worked, and again to test out a refurb sawtooth for my buddy
I can let it go for ~$20 + a few bucks for shipping, depending on where you want it shipped to :p
you can pm me with zip/details if interested or post back here :p

Not sure why this is getting so much buzz again. Real Harmony has been out there for over two years now, and even news of this me-too implementation from Johansen already ran 3 weeks ago (http://www.macrumors.com/pages/2006/10/20061002155354.shtml) on MacRumors. Nothing much at all has changed WRT the iTunes Store's market position.

Hey, can anyone give any recommendations on a Bluetooth mouse? Can I use a Bluetooth mouse for both a Mac and PC? What is the distance you can use a mouse? Anybody know of any future products coming out that use Bluetooth?
Congratulations, you have the (dis)honor of posting the 768th thread on a BT mouse recommendation.
Search the forums

Dear JBG
So there will be a 2011 Macbook refresh?
When do you think it's likely to arrive?

Go look at Pages; Word's been the "standard" for years and Pages can write Word documents. I'm sure if Lasso, Numbers, Charts, etc. will also be able to save in Excel documents. I believe AppleWorks can, and if this is a step up, and since the world has moved a little more, there should be no problem with Excel and Apple's new application.
Hopefully, but Open Office can do a heck of a lot, and few have adopted it. For Free !!!
I agree that if Lasso, Numbers, Charts, etc. can save in a format that is pallatable to Excel - it will be more likely to succeed, but after second thoughts, I realize Apple will need what Open Office doesn't have: Marketing Dollars.

I think im the only person who thinks that a peice of equipment the size of a deck of cards that holds over 15k songs is NOT too big??? I have a 40G pod and I wouldn't want it any smaller...If I needed a pod with more storage I would buy a 60G in a heart beat
