Thanks, you've really helped out.
One question that does come across though is once I flash the card with EFI and select the SSD as a boot drive from an existing OSX install I will want to install Mac OSX fresh on this now bootable SSD and ditch the default OSX installation on which I chose the SSD as the boot drive. Can I do this? Or must I clone the existing OSX install onto the new SSD drive first?
I was thinking after making the SSD boot drive I could simply boot off the OSX install discs and install OSX on this SSD?
You can do it either way.
Cloning is easier (already has both the OS and card drivers installed), but if you want a clean installation, you use the install disks, then the disk that came with the RAID card (card settings are on the card).
Another alternative, is start clean on the existing OS disk, then clone (this would should be more "fool proof" than trying to use the DVD installation disks directly to the SSD, as you could potentially run into an issue setting the SSD as the boot location if that's not already set (which makes a change in the system's firmware).
It's going to be a new system with no important data, so I don't care about cloning the existing OSX install which comes on the 1TB HDD with the 8-core 2010 Mac Pro. In fact I am going to pull that drive out altogether.
If the current installation isn't cluttered with things you no longer want/need (i.e. just the OS and RAID card drivers), creating a clone would be the fastest and easiest way to go.
If it is cluttered with crap you no longer want (reason for a clean OS X installation), see above.
Perhaps I am complicating things too much here and after flashing the card to EFI, I can just shut down, take out the original 1TB HDD with OSX. Start the PC, launch the Areca EFI RAID BIOS menu with the right key press, put the 2x SSD's in pass through mode and 4x 3TB in RAID5. Afterwards just boot off the OSX cd and it will see the 2x SSD drives and the RAID5 volume and just install OSX on one of the SSD's like I want? Will I have troubles installing Win 7 through bootcamp on the 2nd SSD drive when its running off the Areca in pass through mode ?[/QUOTE]
Put the Windows disk on the ICH (system's SATA ports), as the card cannot dual boot like that in a MP (been tried before and has never worked).
Other than the Windows disk, it will work.
Also maybe you know, for installing 2x 6G SSD's in the 2nd 5'25" optical bay I obviously need either the OWC multimount adapter bracket 2.5 to 5.25 or other, but for power do I need a SATA power Y splitter or something to get power to both SSD's ? Both of these will be connected to the Areca in pass through mode, the length of the included miniSAS cable should be fine to reach to the SSD's in the optical bay right ?
Well, since one of these needs to be connected to the DATA portion of the backplane cable and you need to split the power off for the OS X SSD (presume this is to be both the OS X and Windows disk locations, as it's the most logical), then do the following:
How to make a cable that retains both the DATA and splits power to multiple drives in the empty ODD bay.

Can another company even sell music at less than $0.99? Apple has been tight with the record companies to keep the price that low. The only "competition" that could be considered cheaper would be a subscription model of music sales/rental. However, does Apples DRM even support the features necessary for a subscription model? DVD Jon can only break DRM, not add new features to it, and the devices it plays on (iPod)
Walmart sells them for $0.88cents a pop.
I'm not sure why he tries to beat the DRM because Apple will just update it and add it in to next iTunes ver.

Yeah makes sense. Best for them to focus on Windows Phone 7 and possibly later release an iPod Touch like device you know, sans phone. Not that I don't think it won't also probably gain disappointing market share.

i'm not sure if this has been covered already, but...
other companies being able to sell DRM'd content for use with the ipod = good for apple (sells more hardware).
other companies being able to use apple's DRM'd content on their devices = bad for apple (sells more software/content).
as always, apple makes money from hardware sales, not software. the at cost/loss leading software is there to lure people to the high margin hardware. this simple point often escapes people and leads to wild and inaccurate speculation.

Im not creeped out by it at all. To me it looks like a statement about the actor or acting. Its just the heavily blurred background that doesnt make sense. There's a diagonal pavement line next to the guys leg which leads the viewer to assume the long reeds/grass on the far lower left of the picture is actually next to the actor. The fading of sharpness doesnt make sense at that point. The confusion is caused I assume by the compression caused by a long lens so its something to watch out for. I generally think it should be more depth of field.

The screen shots look really cool. Since I have a G5 hooked up to my TV, I think this would work great for what I use it for. Currently I just use a wireless Apple keyboard/mouse in front of the TV, but I want something a little different.

Well you wont be able to put it on the original DVD... but if you have a SuperDrive, you can burn a new one.
I recomend DVDxDV. www.dvdxdv.com. You can extract the files from the DVD to your HD. Then you can import the files into iMovie and edit them... do w/e you want with them. Then iMovie sends it over to iDVD and you reburn the movie.
Understand???
I know I can't put it back on the original dvd. And if this program works like you say, It'll be perfect

Since you are looking for internships, so presumably do not have much experience, this might work for you. But as someone who has been given the tasks of screening resumes and interviews, I will warn you that if your resume does not express true knowledge of the topics you are presenting in a resume, then you would never make it past my first read. And there is little chance that a generic resume writer is going to be able to write something that I would be interested in.
But this all depends on who you are writing the resume for. In some instances you are really writing to make it though HR, because the next layer of interviewers/reviewers is only going to be handed that resume 5 minutes before their session with you (or maybe they only read it then...). In that case then a professional resume writer might be a real boon.
That being said, the opposite is also true: I have seen some resumes that desperately needed an editor to go through and re-do them, for: typeos (this is a first-impression situation), content, or just awful style (my first couple of resumes probably fall into this bin).

It's totally up to how much your current apps take space. If they only take like 20GB, then 60GB is more than fine. See this (http://guides.macrumors.com/Symbolic_Link_(Fixing_Steam_Content)) guide to move your Steam games to other drives
I will be using a 1 or 2 TB external to store everything else, but wouldn't moving my steam to the external take a pretty long time to load and play compared to the ssd? Load, read/write are the major reasons to switch to a ssd from what I gather. Not quite sure, as I am still learning about how all of this works. Thanks.

I think that will do it. I did the same thing with older pictures, too. You can then just switch libraries to use the one you want.
You can easily test it by exporting the folder as a new library and then switching libraries to look at it to make sure it looks right before you delete that folder off the internal drive.

I have a G3 iMac (2001 Slot Loading, OS 10.3.9) that will not accept the Memorex CD-RX Rewritable disks I bought. Is there something I can do to format these so they work?
Heather, what is "CD-RX?" I've never heard of that format. Is that interchangeable with CD-RW? The latter is the standard read-write format supported by most burners....

Do you make money with that machine?
I use a 2009 MBP (17") and upgraded the RAM to 6GB (more will follow) and an SSD and it is quite a snappy machine in PS CS5 with 12MP RAW photos. An ix-core MBP will be faster in calculating effects, thus if you do a lot of effects work that take five seconds on your current MBP, they will take two to three seconds on a newer MBP.
lol no I don't make money on this system, seems like the better option is B. I've already got a 64gb SATIII SSD, would that be enough for PS5 as well as lightroom?

Does every rumor point to the iPhone? Come one people...there's nothing to see here. More and more cameras are including GPS recievers. Especially high end digital SLRs that pros use.
This is just a natural extension of increasing the amount (and quality) of the metadata that is tagged and collected with digital images. The recent updates to iPhoto and Aperture allow for Aperture to use your iPhoto library as a source.
Aperture also has a new export plug-in API to allow for connection to third party services like Flickr and iStockphoto. Google maps will be next. Then, look for these same or similar plug-ins to make their way down to iPhoto in iLife '07.
I'm just as excited as the next guy for an iPhone but come on guys...this is getting a bit much.

1. Totally integrated visual sound editing, live with all the tools from Sound Track Pro. Who wants to go out to a sperate application.
Me. I'd rather have applications tailored to a single area than have one giant bloated one.
4. Of course there will be some sort of realtime compression as you continue to work. And the compression engine will be completely overhauled.
Whaddaya mean by this?
DVD Studio Pro needs a complete overhaul too and should support blu-ray authoring. Perhaps the bag of hurt is coming to Lion :-) But burners will be Thunderbolt external only, making it of use primarily to content creators protecting Apple's Digital Download model.
I think the only thing that's kept FCS's Blu-ray support limited so far is the would-be awkwardness of offering software that their driveless hardware cannot work with. I don't know where that leaves things. Perhaps Apple with pimp a third-party external drive, because I don't see them releasing an Apple-branded one.
I can't be bothered thinking up my own detailed predictions at this juncture, but I reckon if Apple pinned this release on revolutionising media management and I mean something that takes you right through the whole post-production process it'd be a gamechanger/showstopper/whatever-OTT-phrase-you-prefer.
