Should only be a short wait for the 4.3.3 untether, as i understand it the same exploit still works.

Sorry, but this sucks. I don't like the multi-themed colour layout nor do I like this explosion of what feels like disorganized text jumping out of the screen at me.
It also seems that commercial aspects of the site are now more important than the site itself, given the priority advertising space has.

Hi everyone
I have recently tried to install windows XP on my mac. What i think happened, was that i THOUGHT i was using bootcamp, but in fact it tried to install XP as the main operation system. In any case, i was stuck in the XP setup blue screen, without being able to complete the installation, get back to OS or even get the XP installer disc out. After spamming the Disc removal key, i finally got the disc out, but when i restarted the mac, a flashing folder showed up. I found out this was because the computer could not find a operating system to boot by. I plugged in the installation disc and tried to repair the disc but it could not. I finally gave up and tried to reinstall the whole thing, but it could not find the harddisc.
What i am asuming happened is: I must have said yes, when the XP setup asked me if i wanted to format the disc. This (ofcause) ment i could no longer run OS on the disc. I realise all my school work, notes and files are gone, what i want now is just my computer back with OS. How do i format the disc back so that i can reinstall OS on it? Please help, and yes i know it was very stupid to format the disc in the first place.

Thanks for this. These places look totally different from anywhere I've been before. I also enjoy landscape/travel photography. I was going to buy a polarising filter before going on holiday in September but would you recommend getting it before this trip? This is a totally new climate for me.

I posed this on another forum and got nothing back...I'm hoping someone here knows how to remedy this problem. Thanks! :D
This is a question I've been meaning to ask for a while. My internal modem, when I first got my iBook, made the typical dial and handshake sounds when I would dial a connection. I can't remember when it stopped, but it no longer makes a sound when it is dialing.
I'm running an iBook G4 12" 1.2 GHz with 768 MB RAM.
Does this have anything to do with a modem script (I read something about this and it mentioned a modem script, but I don't think it solved the issue for the other user). I checked the settings for the modem in the Network preference pane. The radio button for Sound is set to On.
It might have happened to me after the Tiger upgrade as well. I'm not sure. Could it be a Tiger issue?
Any help anyone can provide is appreciated.
Thanks!

Using the whole page whould be pointless. There's lot of stuff there that's irrelevant to Mac users. We could make one of our own, but keep it a bit simpler and just have a link to Wikipedia for the more technical stuff (for those who is interested).
IMO.

I hate to burst your bubble. But most androil phones do not have the latest and greatest OS. How do I know this. I own a Samsung Epic 4g. I just got Froyo. I will probably never see Gingerbread. Until they find a way to update the phones to the latest OS. Android sucks!! I love my iPad and miss the iPhone.
Well at least on Android if you WANT the latest OS you CAN have it. On iPhone if you want to be jailbroken you CANT have the latest OS more times than not, especially lately. If Android sux, switch back to iPhone, see how you love it after you're back.

I have it. But the DRM has to be removed.
is this possible to do? Does it require jailbreaking of any sort? I downloaded the optimum app yesterday so I'm pretty sure I am running the non-VPN friendly version. Boo optimum, always looking to crash a party

If your pref is set to column view but it opens in icon view (which is a bug), don't use the buttons in the finder window itself to switch views (they will switch views but they don't make the view stick). Use the View menu item As Columns (Cmd 3).

Those 2 mentioned were the lower default resolutions and I believe the others were 1280 x 720, 1280 x 768, 1368 x 768. I like the 1280 x 720 but most recent games only get maybe 8 - 15 fps at that resolution.

Why?
They've held this strategy for over two decades and the only time they were in trouble, financially, was when they abandoned it.
Methinks you know tech a whole lot better than you do how to run a business.
Apple has been the extreme minority in selling personal computers since 1986. Their pc marketshare has been below 10% for how long? 20+ years...and still is even though they are selling like hotcakes.
I like the Macs...I also like the Wintels. And I also, as a consumer, am not going to plunk down $1200+ for a Mac when a $600-$700 PC will allow me to do 100% of the same stuff just using different name-brand-products. :) And other consumers who are out there looking to buy a new computer to surf the web, play music, surf Youtube, upload pix, go to Facebook, use online chat, read email, (and a billion other online activities) are going to ask themselves "why am I spending $1200 for a Mac using Firefox when I can buy a $600 PC using the same Firefox?"
I don't want to go too off topic but suffice to say these days, so much pc time is spent online that you could be using any computer manufacturer/OS in the world that supports Firefox or Safari or IE and you'd have the same experience. Why spend double?

My roommate is a PC fanatic. He's an engineer, yet he still uses IE instead of Firefox for crying out loud. All of his purchased music is from MusicMatch, and he plays it on the cheapest player he could find.
He recently got a new computer and tried to get his MusicMatch songs to play on it. He has now devoted a couple hours every afternoon for 3 weeks to the project. In his weakened condition, I started showing him how my iTunes music could painlessly hop from computer to computer, and how if he used iTunes, he could stream all of my non-protected music. He was ready to cut his losses and switch to iTunes right there.
Unfortunately, iTunes songs won't play on his player so that was the end of it. There's no way he's paying more than $30 for a player, and there's no iPod that cheap. As a result, he'll never know how much better iTunes (and the rest of mac software) is. Apple had a chance to get their foot in the door, and instead they slammed his own door in his face.

My macbook is starting to get slow every start up. I'm checking my Login Items and found these that I dont have any idea if its system related
StatusMenu (All Users)
CheckUpAlert
iTunesHelper
If I delete those would it mess up my system? And can there be another cause for it to start going slow?

i think while you are redesigning the site, you may as well redesign the logo, that is getting a bit old now...
however, I guess it is part of your identity... I don't know, no offence, i just never thought much of it. the rest of the site is top notch, esp the content, i will definitely be contributing!

Well done, Manzana.

It has a great selection for a price cheaper than most CDs.
Albeit at a lesser quality. But I agree with you.
I'm not claiming to speak for others, but I personally dont mind not being able to play my music on anything else, given there is nothing out there better than the iPod...
I really dont know what position to take on this :)

This makes perfect sense. It's actually a very elegant solution. Expect to see it integrated into Aperature as well.
More and more cameras (and photographers) are getting into this GPS metadata thing. I've started to see GPS units that mount onto a camera's hotshoe and sync up to the photos with a cable.
It's great that someone thought of scripting a button that inputs that metadata into an online map system. It's a simple script for sure. Still, it save me from having to copy and paste coordinates into Google Maps.
I wouldn't count on this having anything to do with a new apple product. It looks like it is just an added function, increasing the user experience. That's the kind of thinking that makes OS X the great operating system we all know and love.:D
