I still can't believe you lot in the USA have gone for yet another incompatible-with-the-rest-of-the-world frequency for your 3G network meaning that anyone coming to the USA won't be able to use your 3G network and your 3G iPhones will be about as useful as a one legged dog outside the USA.
It's interesting that the T-Mobile guy thinks that the prime use for 3G in the USA will be email and other user generated content and not music though. Personally the last thing I want is content rich email on my mobile phone.
Well, our "lot" didn't have much choice in the matter. North Americans didn't choose a different frequency spectrum for their mobile communications out of "spite" or just to be different. We couldn't use 900 or 1800 Mhz because it was already in use by services that could not be moved. Likewise for the frequencies used for 3G there was no choice there either. Why it is that people automatically assume that people in North American do things just for spite is beyond me.

I will buy the MBA when it gets a backlit keyboard.
Completely agree .. I bought an MBP 13" unibody when it got upgraded with a backlight and its the best laptop ever ... when I went to test the latest MBA the lack of the backlit keyboard was the only thing stopping me from sidegrading to it (the only 'upgrade' would be the size/weight shrinkage, the other specs would be a downgrade).
As the MBP 13" unibody was introduced without a backlit keyboard then I suspect the MBAs will get them at the next bump or maybe the one after that .. I guess it will depend upon what Apple do with the chipsets and whether there is enough battery spare for the leds 8-)

My 3GS is still like new, and I'll keep it until it starts sucking. I'm on 3.1.2 jailbreak, so I have all the features I like and want. I also am one of those people that doesn't recharge until it dies completely, so the battery still lasts two days at a time, unless they update Angry Birds. Then it dies pretty quick while I 3-star everything. (:

I downloaded it, so I'm going to give it a shot. My main concern will be the flexability.
In the past we used to call things like these 3rd party tools and they can be life savers! It really depends on what level of control you retain. With a newer os, you'll have API's come out from time to time.
It would be nice to have an Open Source version of one of these, that gives you the best of all worlds.
I'll check it out next week.

Anyone there today?
It is snowing heavily in downtown SLC now :(
lol those commenters were not happy with you.
According to Notorious BIG,
"Number four: know you heard this before
Never get high, on your own supply
Number five: never sell no crack (substitute iPad here) where you rest at
I don't care if they want a ounce, tell em bounce"
Glad that the ultracapitalists in Utah are getting punished! woot.

I watched the video and don't think that's what Michael Moore said.
He's not saying that the money in Bill Gate's bank account is a national resource, he's saying the wealth generated by our economy is a national resource and that there have been intentional political and business decisions that have concentrated greater amounts of our economic wealth into the hands of the rich.
Don't you think that's true, 5P?
I'd have to disagree with you there. There were several key-words in that interview which I think clearly proves his position is that he (and the rest of us) have a claim on the wealth earned by someone else. I think he would carry that opinion regardless of WHERE the person made the money. If it was a billionaire who made all their money in France (not our economy), and then moved to America for retirement, I think his position on his claim to that wealth would be the same...
No one needs that much money. Assuming his wealth is around 40 billion, that's more than anyone could ever spend or needs. I say tax it all, and leave him with a few hundred million. That's still an insane amount of money. That way, he'd be paying his fair share of taxes, and would still have more money than he needs.
I can't tell if you're joking or being serious. On the chance that you're being serious, please answer the following question... In 2009 the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation gave $3.653 Billion to some of the most important charitable causes around the globe. They're known around the world as one of the most highly selective, efficient, and effective charitable organizations. Is it your position that our federal government would more efficiently/effectively utilize this money?
Thank you Fivepint, I needed a good laugh.
Why didn't you vote "yes?"

thanks, but one thing: for my model it says 'point at 4.3.2 firmware image' - I'm assuming I can download the firmware from here (http://www.iclarified.com/entry/index.php?enid=14568) and use that, even though I never downloaded 4.3.2 via itunes?

That doesn't mean it doesn't work, those people could have been using MyWi or TetherMe before switching to PdaNet. Granted, I don't think the method PdaNet uses helps at all.
They said they were using the new pdanet stealth mode that's all.
Not sure if they used MyWi or tetherme also but doesn't seem like it matters.
Try it out and let us know if you want.

You shoudl be fine "capturing" HD content, after all all your doing is copying a file from your HD camcorder to the hard drive on yo ur computer. That wouldnt be system intensive at all, unless you somhow trying to capture video straight to your computer in its raw format which would be a very heavy task that im not even sure g5's could handle. On the playback side, few people realize just hwo cpu intensive h.264 is, even a 1.67ghz g4 will drop fraims at 720p let alone 1080i/p. You definantly need dual G5 2.0Ghz cpus or better for smooth 1080p playback. Thats part of the reason why there are so many specialized chips used in the industry to decode h.264, like in the ipod which can barley handle its low resolution decoding of h.264

Sorry for the delay. I did hook up the airport express and still it says that the ethernet is not plugged into the WAN port. I don't understand. I have had the cable company come out and they say the internet and modem are working fine. Am I to believe that the WAN port is not working on both my TC and AE, both going out at the same time? Any help is appreciated.

What would be the alternative? Put some Dr. Dre head phones in the box and have the iPod cost $80 more? To what end?
Very few people care about the quality of the headphones that come with iPods. For those that do, they can buy nice set of headphones and not worry about the 10 cent ones that Apple puts in the box.
If Apple put in a half decent set of headphones and increased the price by, say $20, the folks that want even better headphones would complain that they have to pay an extra $20 for headphones they'll never use.
This is exactly my point--here we are saying that tons of people would complain about paying an extra $20 for headphones that weren't total garbage, but we are also saying how great it is that Apple sticks 6 billion dollars in the bank for three months' work, free and clear. So which is it? You want to line the pockets of the richest of the rich further, or you don't want to pay the extra $20 for decent headphones?

I mean that the iteration of Thunderbolt will hurt for me, by getting a MBA now with out it.
The HD3000 is slightly less powerful than the 320m GPU. So with a higher resolution display on the MBA the HD3000 would perform worse than the 320m currently does? This is my thinking and why I think Apple didn't increase the resolution of the current MBA instead of suffering a major decrease in GPU performance. I'm thinking that the Intel graphics performance will degrade much quicker at higher resolutions than the Nvidia does.
Only in gaming scenarios and other OpenGL applications. For the desktop, these GPUs can power massive external monitors with no problem. It's not like GPU power required to push out the kind of resolutions we're talking about here haven't been around for close to 10 years. My old Matrox G200 with 16MB of RAM could do it without flinching.

It would be helpful to have integrated debugging, but I imagine this might not be possible since I am going to be using WebGL. In the least I would want syntax coloring, as strong error checking as possible prior to runtime, good facilities to manage lots of files and revisions, and some facilities to speed up workflow. Any advice?
Vim.
Debugging is mainly handled within the browser. Chrome and Firefox are especially good at this (Firefox has Firebug which is useful and the standard Chrome dev tools are top notch too).

I sold my iPad 1 which was jailbroken on 4.2.1. Since buying my iPad 2 the jailbreak is biggest thing I miss. I'm staying on 4.3 until we know which version the jailbreak will work on!
Same here. Sold my jailbroken iPad 1 and bought an iPad 2. I missed my jaillbroken apps.
...Waiting patiently for the jailbreak.

Well, seeing as this thread (http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?t=1087396) was created just yesterday, not everyone saw the front page news.
"New" and "old" are relative words. It takes up a very small amount of space and that news story has generated almost 900 comments. I think it's manually placed there so stays as long as the admins feel it serves some purpose.
