Absolutely not, because this is not what is happening.
What is claimed here is a method of adding the "FairPlay" DRM to music from other stores than iTMS, so that companies other than Apple can sell music with DRM that can _only_ be played with iTunes or an iPod (that is, 80 percent of the market) instead of selling music with Microsoft DRM as they do now (which plays on the other 20 percent of the market).
As an example, the Beatles could use this to sell all their music on the Internet with DRM to iPod owners, without going through the iTunes Music Store. They could make more money that way; for the iTunes user or iPod owner there would be no difference.
Ah, thanks for clearing that up.

This is so weird. I mean I have an iPod touch 4th gen, DS, PSP and I've got all my handheld consoles stored away. But I just can't get into iPod gaming. Your fingers get in the way most of the time and it just doesn't feel like a fully polished experience for 99% of games on the App store.
Ho hum! Once I'm done in work I'll go back to Dissidia 012 and Pokemon White, bought World of Goo last night but you need fingers the width of pencils to play that game.

Hello,
I have a Studiologic Numa which connects via USB. For some reason when I connect the USB cable it powers on the keyboard but mac does not recognize it at all, and Audio Midi Setup is useless when I ask it to rescan midi. This is a brand new macbook pro running Snow Leopard. Oddly enough, it works fine with my old macbook running Leopard. As far as I know my USB port works fine, as I've tried with both ports and they seem to work well with my external hard drives. I have also tried to change the USB cable to no avail
Any ideas?

Reminds me of people predicting flying cars in the year 2010. Hilarious when the guy sets the phone down and the kids drag the video screen over to them. Now the glass is one big camera. That could be scary.
I can also see a vast run on Windex.

Good god, are you seriously suggesting that if you don't need a 2560 x 1600 resolution you don't need a computer? Hahaha... just quit while you're behind, man.

i love macs i love the simplicity but theres nothing out there
that will topple microsoft office period.
As of now, you are correct.
However, don't forget Lotus 1-2-3, dbase IV and others had there day in the sun as well.
At this point, Apple does not need to "overthrow" Office, just provide as alternative.

My girlfriend is Spanish, and we both love movies. We also both prefer movies in their original tongue with subtitles. I've looked in iTunes, and as I suspected, there are no subtitle options when buying a movie.
Is there a way to burn a dvd with subtitles on a MBP. I mean, I know there is, but what's the best way? I have Toast, but don't really know how to use it. Hardcopied subtitles or selectable...it doesn't matter. I'm going to see her next week, and if I have to, I'll just bring some DVDs where I can selected them in the menu, but that seems so...obsolete.
Thanks in advance!

Who didn't see this coming? Microsoft is crashing...hard!!!
I actually see this as a good thing for Microsoft. Like Apple did when Steve returned, they are cutting everything that doesn't make sense so they can focus on their strategy. Steve killed Newton and it got a lot of flak for Apple similar to this, but it was the right call.
Microsoft has it's toes in way too many pots. Figure out a strategy, pursue it, and ruthlessly cut everything else without succumbing to 'sunk cost' syndrome of throwing good money after bad money.

The problem is you're not searching hard enough ;)

This is the best I've come across. It's low profile, sturdy, one button controls calls and switching tracks in itunes and best of all, works with thick cases (ie candyshell).

Hello all!
I partitioned my primary disk into 2 parts and installed snow leopard on the second. The problem was, the second was too small. So now, months after having used my secondary partition, I realized I no longer need the primary, so I have deleted it. I'm trying to find a way to resize the second partition into the space the first partition left. It seems like the only thing I can do is create a new partition with the free space, transfer all my data into that new one, and delete this one, then resize. but I'm sure there must be an easier way to do this without having to go through all that trouble. I know that if i would have deleted my secondary partition, I would have been able to resize my primary. Is there a way to resize now? maybe through terminal or a third party app?

Do you know by any chance on how swapping sims work withe official unlock? Do you have to connect to iTunes every time and new sim is inserted or can you just swap sims on the fly?
On-the-fly should work fine.
Once it's officially unlocked the phone itself shouldn't care what SIM you put in it; when you do re-connect to iTunes and it sees your IMEI that you're white-listed it shouldn't even do any "activation" verification besides check for available carrier bundle updates based on your SIM at the time.

Yeah, but if Apple want to compete in the media center market, they will have to produce a small box that will do all....ie put HDMI in Mac Mini (iTV could be a cut down version of this??)
DVI and HDMI are almost the same thing (do a search on Google for "dvi hdmi").
Well, HDMI also carries the audio signal, but you can get a cheap cable or converter to hook up your Mac Mini to a HDMI TV and use another cable for audio.

I just logged in to try to get some account info for the switch to Verizon tonight, and look what I got.
Edit: I just called up and was able to get my account info, no questions asked. I guess this is just a random coincidence that their online account service happens to be down right before the iPhone 4 launch on Verizon.

[QUOTE=MacRumors;12429717]Image (http://www.macrumors.com/2011/04/20/apple-reports-best-non-holiday-quarter-ever-with-5-99-billion-profit-for-q2-2011/)
Apple today announced financial results (http://www.apple.com/pr/library/2011/04/20results.html) for the first calendar quarter and second fiscal quarter of 2011. For the quarter, Apple posted revenue of $24.67 billion and net quarterly profit of $5.99 billion, or $6.40 per diluted share, compared to revenue of $13.50 billion and net quarterly profit of $3.07 billion, or $3.33 per diluted share, in the year-ago quarter. Gross margin was 41.4 percent, compared to 41.7 percent in the year-ago quarter, and international sales accounted for 59 percent of the quarter's revenue. The numbers represent the best non-holiday quarterly revenue and earnings in Apple history, just missing last quarter's $6 billion profit.
Apple shipped 3.76 million Macintosh computers during the quarter, a unit increase of 28 percent over the year-ago quarter. Quarterly iPhone unit sales reached a record 18.65 million, up 113 percent from the year-ago quarter, and the company also sold 9.02 million iPods during the quarter, representing 17 percent unit decline over the year-ago quarter. Apple also sold 4.69 million iPads during the quarter.Apple's guidance for the third quarter of fiscal 2011 includes expected revenue of $23 billion and earnings per diluted share of $5.03.
This quote for some reason does not show up.
That margin is truly ridiculous. Great for stockholders but really bad for consumers. A 41% profit margin, they could sell their $1000 computers for 800 dollars and still make the industry average profit.
With that kind of margin don't say they don't cost more than they should. But people still buy them because to them, they can be worth every penny.
I'm not saying that they are overpriced by definition because people still love buying them and it is the market who sets the actual value of an object. But they could lower their prices quite a bit.

I'm thinking I'm going to go to either this one or sherman oaks, that is if they know they're going to have white iphones. Anyone have any experience lining up at this store?
From what I understand, there will be no white phones for a while. And I have heard that sherman oaks is better, not sure why.

Hi! This might be a bit difficult but would be very useful for me posting at my blog.
I would like to have something like this: (example of a page talking about the iBook)
Check for (link)Ibooks(/link) on Ebay
I would like this to be automatically at the end of the page when I write a post on the blog.
I dont know PHP very well but i was thinking something like this:
At each page, I could add a value like Value=Ibook G4 and then make it make a custom ebay URL that searches for Ibook G4 (thats easy to do).
I would insert all those codes at the PHP theme file for where the posts appear and just add ex: value=iBook G4 in my posts everytime
(I already have adsense ads that appear automatically)
Anyone here know their PHP/HTML to help me out doing this?
Thanks!

So let me get this straight:
1: ATT will not unlock your iphone no matter what
2: Foreign carriers are not allowed to unlock my ATT iPhone
3: I'm better off buying a another phone when I go to Europethat seems to be the gist. Hope someone will correct me if I'm wrong. I'm heading on sabbatical in the UK soon. I have an old JB iphone 3 but would rather use my iphone 4 of course.

Just a couple of thoughts (background... I shoot a 5DII, have 750GB of images, and have a MacPro with 6.5TB of internal storage + external no-caddy drive bays for backups).
Don't buy 350/500GB drives. They're older technology, and they're no longer the most cost effective in terms of GB/$.
The sweet spot for GB/$ is in the larger disks - 1TB to 2TB - and these disks will also be faster, as the data is packed tighter on the disk surface. You'll read more bits off the platter for every disk revolution.
Make sure you have a good backup strategy in place - and design that from the very beginning. Back up to external drives and try and keep a copy offsite. I also use an internal partition as a TimeMachine disk - just for my boot drive.
Edit. Oh yes... one more thing. RAID IS NOT A BACKUP... and don't trust anyone who tells you it is. RAID will ONLY protect you against disk crashes, NOT against accidental deletion, theft, water damage, electrical glitches, virus action, fire, accidental damage which together are more likely than a disk crash. To be safe, you need three copies of data, one of which should be in a separate location.
Another HDD space junkie! :D I will buy 1 or 2 TB drives for the Mac Pro. However, what if I buy 1 TB drives and they puke before I fill them up? I am not being a smart @@S, just asking a legitimate question, as that scenario is my only concern. Also, thanks for clarifying that RAID is not for backup. my good friend uses RAID to backup, but he never writes to his drives, only reads. They are for storing tons of movies and games. Off-site storage is a big deal with photographers and I understand the benefits, but I never would have added 1+1. LOL
I am still thinking about my backup plan, but I have plenty of options thanks to the photographer community! As I stated in my last reply, I will clear my mind this weekend and in all likelihood, order a new Mac Pro 8 core soon.

my 3GS is having more and more issues. battery life goes down, touchscreen is getting less responsive/less precise. I hope it holds up for a while.
If not I can get either:
- the rumored white iPhone 4 end of April
- the rumored iPhone 5 end of September
- the rumored iPhone 6 in 2012
nice, every few month a rumored replacement for my 3GS:rolleyes:
