i hope they have insurance.
i wonder how they sell those Macbooks and iPads. seems to be the biggest risk to get caught or scammed out of "their" money.

Any word on a buying limit? I was originally buying one for my wife and me, but my dad just called from St. George who preordered with Simply Mac. They just told him they don't expect their stock now until the end of next week, so I'll be trying to buy 3 now.

it would surely cost a lot.
this is always the case, when new products appear in the market.
i'd say 2000 $$$.
i am hoping though, that other companies would use this technology too, and not be dependent on Philips to use this technology.
i was never satisfied with philips equipment. maybe it is just me.
and if we need to resort to philips equipment, then i would want to have a choice of machines. philips needs to present 2 to 4 hifis within a month and not just one.
if we will see them in mwsf? good question. i predict, no. it is just too early.
and again, we are talking about apple here. we know how steve loves surprises, although he hasn't surprised us that often in the last few macworlds.

Thanks for your second reply. I have closed down the software now and will be heading to bed as it is 4am over here.
I think maybe I'll rule out this little project after all, or look at getting some kind of licence to do said activity.
Thanks for the heads up. :o

The MacBook Air and the iPad are the future of portable computing. Thin, light, fast (SSD). Enough power to get the job done, not so much power you need 3 cooling fans and 3 lbs. of battery to do it.
It's not that the MacBook Air is evolving into a mainstream product. It's the mainstream that's evolving into MacBook Air-like products.

Hello,
An issue I have wasted way too much time on and hoping for some insight here. I have a bunch of PDF's I am trying to open in illustrator. The vector images come through alright, but all the text is converted to . If I save the PDF again in Preview as a PDF-X the text now appears as random numbers and symbols like: +4)%$*0!$)%#5!!673!%$'()*#!+,$-!
I am now saying "+4)%$*0!$)%#5!!673!%$'()*#!+,$-!" and any insight would be appreciated.
PS the text will copy and paste with no errors from preview into word or illustrator. It is only when I open the file in illustrator the text is gone.

I'm totally pro-GPS imprints on photos, but we're eating up technology that has two very different sides to it potentially.
hidden references in iPhoto 6.0.5[/url] that show Apple is preparing iPhoto for integration with Google Maps. "

wow, setting your bars pretty high, huh? 2 years. top 3. bold statement I agree with that poster.
Key partner - Nokia (#1 volume seller of the world)
Did you see sales of Symbian phones from last year? And that is an outdated looking OS. Nokia may be catered for the cheap, plastic prepaid phones here in the USA but they are still highly popular everywhere else.
Android was still for the niche crowd back in 2009 selling about 6M units. They grew by 10X last year. Once people's contracts are up, I can see moving onto other OSes eventually just for their fickle nature and willing to try something different. Microsoft should try to make an Xbox phone. Their Xbox 360 has been successful for them and the Kinect became one of the fastest selling gadgets in history with over 10M in a few months. In two years it will be Android #1 with iOS and WP7 filling up 2nd and 3rd based in volume sales. Based on profits, Apple still wins. BlackBerry is still niche outside NA and webOS is even more obscure.
iPhone's popularity is like Facebook. Once your auntie and grandma have one now, it became "less cool." And it's an industry based on trends and fickle people.
As for nomore Zune players, who cares? Zune software still lives on with WP7 phones. If you aren't Apple, you don't matter in the mp3/pmp market which has become niche anyway thanks to phones. I was using my Zune software and Sony Media Go just to watch videos on my laptop last night. Less crashes than what iTunes does for me. Software will still live on.
This is my personal roadmap with phones -
2010 - iOS
2011 - Android or BlackBerry OS 7
2012 - Nokia WP7 phone w/ Xenon flash or Samsung w/ SAMOLED
Then rotate and rotate it because I am cool like that OWNING the top 4 best OSes out there! Palm/HP webOS is too much like BB's QNX/BB OS 7 for me to consider it.
iOS has the apps, simplicity, best batt life, and best "all-around" features. Android has the geeky customization, cutting-edge hardware first, and the PlayStation games which will coincide with my Sony PSP2/NGP. BlackBerry has the best multi-tasking and slickest OS thanks to TAT. WP7 is there to implement my Zune and Xbox Live stuff while a OLED screen compliments the look of WP7. Also, Nokia will gives us Xenon flash. It all balances out, baby.

Primary Application: Quicktime Player 7, the Finder.
Background: I work for a Visual Effects Studio.
Goal of script: Part of one of our employees jobs is to process "offlines" (basically a bunch of different low quality scene shots organized together as a reference for work that needs to be done) for tv shows that we get and export certain scenes in this offline (the ones we've been payed to work on) as Image Sequences (scene cut into individual frames) so the vfx artist may have a reference.
And with that exporting comes a procedure of creating a specific folder for the offline image sequence and creating the image sequence with the proper parameters (JPEG sequence + Highest quality available)
I wanted to simplify that process with a script.
Example.
Show A sends us a 5:00minute mp4 offline. Shot 01x01 found at 00:10 thru 00:20 in the mp4 needs to be converted into a jpeg image sequance.
the steps that would normally be followed would be
0) Open offline (mp4)
1) set your "i"(in-marker) at 00:10 and your "o"(out-marker) at 00:20
2) Command+C = copy selection you have just made
3) Command +N = New Quicktime then Command + V = paste selection
4) File>Export (now name your shot "01x01-Offline_" (shots are watermarked with name) and create destination folder "01x01-Offline")
then select "Movie to image sequence" from drop down menu, then select "options" and change to JPEG from PNG then selection "Options" in this window and move slider to "best possible" for quality.
5)Click save and you are done.
I'd like to slim that down to.
1) Open Offline and manually set your desired "i" an"o"
2) Run Script
Script basic = I need this script to take the selection i've made and create an image sequence of it.
Script Details= All the shot folders have been automatically created, so the script needs to list the pre-made folder selections from the directory the Offline had been opened from.
This needs to Generate a selection prompt that the user may select the proper shot this is.
From here its easy. You just use the export command in the Apple Script Library with the correct paramaters
Currently I am stuck at finding the proper term for "Copy Selection" as selection is not apart of the dictionary.
Any help is appreciated!

I should see no reason why it wouldn't work like it does on the PowerBooks given that you feed the iBook the maximum amount of RAM. The only other limiting factors are the graphics card memory and the size of the screen (1024x768) is somewhat limiting when you have all of Final Cut's windows open.

I like the mba, but they are so god awful slow. Maybe im just used to fast computers but no way i could use current gen of mba. Maybe next time but 6 year old tech is a bit to old for me.
Nonsense. The key component of the MBA is the SSD. The MBA has coped with everything I've thrown at it. If the C2D was coupled with a mechanical HDD then I'm sure the performance would be very "2007", but it's a great little machine that can deal with practically anything you ask it too.
