A tiny spider species has triggered a Mazda recall - and there's nothing itsy-bitsy about it.
The yellow sac spider has been nesting in the fuel hoses of certain Mazda6 cars, causing clogs that could lead to fuel leaks and fires.
Mazda announced Friday that it was recalling more than 65,000 cars in the U.S., Canada and Mexico to address the puzzling problem.
The spider is a common household insect but employees of the Japanese automaker are clueless as to why the tiny arachnids chose their brand.
"We really don't know how they're getting in," said Mazda spokesman Jeremy Barnes. "This is a really strange case."
One floated theory is that the spiders are attracted to the smell of gasoline, but though that explanation gets chuckles, bug experts say there is not much science behind it.
"I think gas would kill them if they came in contact with it, and if they were attracted to it we would have found out years ago," said Rick Vetter, a Long Island native and University of California, Riverside researcher who is one of the nation's most prominent entomologists
"I do a lot of myth busting regarding spiders, and it's really amazing the amount of insanity that gets generated about these things," he said.
University of Nebraska-Lincoln entomologist Barb Ogg agrees.
"It doesn't make any sense to me. They like to spend their time in little tight spaces, so I think it's more likely related to how [the fuel system] constructed," she said.
The spiders have been weaving small sacs in rubber hoses attached to the cars' fuel tank system, blocking ventilation and causing pressure that could lead to cracks, gas leaks and in the worst-case scenario a fire.
The company reports there have been no serious incidents related to the bizarre spider infestations.
It was unclear why the eight-legged pests were partial to the Mazda6 - the only model affected - over other models or automakers.
This particular spider is about the size of a dime and weaves a small sac instead of a large web a la Charlotte of "Charlotte's Web" fame.
Mazda launched the recall after dealers around the country reported more than 20 cases of the nesting spiders in Mazda6 models released in 2009 and 2010.
The company said it will notify owners of affected cars this month. Dealers will inspect and clean out the fuel lines if necessary.
Mazda said it may never solve the mystery of the fuel line-dwelling spiders.
Cracking a joke on the Mazda's popular commercial jingle, Barnes siad, "Perhaps yellow sac spiders like to go Zoom-Zoom?"http://www.nydailynews.com/news/national/2011/03/04/2011-03-04_bizarre_fuel_hose_spider_infestations_spark_mass_mazda_recall_65000_cars_recalle.html

I've had account on here forever but only browse much, I was wondering if any of you have seen this before. It was given to me by a swiss friend who didn't really want the sign anymore.
I am thinking about selling it, only thing is the display looks as if it was made for european outlets and when I was given this he said that the bulb would need to be replaced. I've never really seen anything like this before either, since I would guess that the sign was before the Apple retail store days. I am not sure if I am allowed to ask but how much would something like this even go for?

i have ghost armor on the ipad2 and invisible shield on the mba, and iphone 3gs. between the two company i would have to say ghost armor has better design and i feel like it "sticks" better, and also ghost armor gives the better look. because the mba one is like 70$ i can't just return it and get ghost armor.
ghost armor: looks better but is thinner than invisible shield, so protection might not be that great....

The whole resolution independance thing terrifies me. I just know we'll see some vendor or Apple have these annoying huge UI's that we can't shrink back down to their proper size. I mean the reason we buy this huge monitors is to shrink the UI and maximize free space right???

But see, that's just it. If we're working back and forth on .docs and .xls's, we can't have ANY formating problems - they've got to match. AND I'm not going to jump through any hoops by using this or that piece of software to make it happen. Don't have time - gotta produce!
When we first started to look into macs for our company the very first thing people wanted to know was how would documents look and be saved. ITs nice to say that openoffice is close, but close isnt a match. Im hoping the new ODF (open document format) will solve these problems! :D

Why not just buy the Mac version of AutoCAD?
I downloaded AutoCAD 2011 and can't install it because it said my macbook version is not supported.. I have Macbook 4.1 and AutoCAD 2011 for Mac system requirements is 5.1 or later.. Autodesk just release the Mac version last year..

Do you remember how much it was sold for?
If I can remember correctly it was expensive, something like $250 which is why I passed on it, Maple Ridge auctions had one also, similar price.
One went here in the UK not so long ago for about 75 but not in as nice a condition as yours.

All going now. I suppose all I really needed was someone to tell me it should work.
For the record I changed the IP address of my second router to be on the same subnet as everything else and changed the WEP password all round.

Is it just the Windoze OS that's the target of the majority of virus attacks, or will the Intel inside make Macs more succeptible?

This will just be a metadata field embedded in the EXIF data of cameraphone photos taken by iPhone users that have paid for the GPS service.
When you sync your iPhone up with you mac later on, the images will be put into iPhoto and through that will be able to link to GoogleEarth.
Since the "camera" will be the cell phone's built-in camera (with stunning 1/4" lens, I'm sure), the quality of the images will make this a novelty feature. Add to that the complexities of international cell phone access charges and GPS service, and the Mac-only limitation of the GoogleEarth connection (unless Apple also announces iLife for Windows, and it's free, or at least iPhoto is free).
Meh

Either way, I like current technology, so I don't worry about updates after 6 months. I replace my computers every 6 months, and my phones as well. This was one of the reasons I defected from Apple's phones, got tired of waiting for a one-a-year product cycle for a phone that wasn't even the latest and greatest technology.
wow, that explains your attitude then. Apple has never been interested in catering to technology fetishists like you, and never will be. why don't you go post constructive comments on Android forums instead of negative ones on Apple forums?
