Something just occurred to me. People who happen upon this site from a Google search or following somebody else's link might not necessarily know what "Mac" means. I don't see the word "Macintosh" anywhere on the home page. Maybe the byline should be "Macintosh news and rumors you care about".
Same for MacBytes: "Macintosh News, Headings, and Links".
An aside: The Apple home page, hot news page, and hardware and software pages together use the word "Macintosh" only once! But people browsing Apple's site probably know what Mac stands for.

@Munkees, do I understand correctly that you now make use of Aperture to manage "referenced" files: importing iPhoto's existing folders and/or albums?
Then, how do you organize your hierarchy: years (1999, ...) as a 'project', events like travels as a 'folder', a country (for example "USA") as an 'album', and a specific visit ("Yosemite", "Grand Canyon North rim", "Grand Canyon South rim") as a 'sub folder' or 'sub album')?
I really never have been one for organizing by year, but rather by places / events.
I did not import form iPhoto, I exported my pictures, then brought them into Aperture.
I now have all my photos kept in their own folders on the HD, and when they get imported into Aperture, I have the preference do not copy files. I will not have nested folders, i want to be able to find my images quickly on the HD, even though this is not that important.
example visit to Yosemite will be in a folder on the HD (in the pictures folder) called "Yosemite". If I got back and take more photos, I will just add them to the same folder, unless there are some good reason to separate them.

Hi guys.. sorry i just found this out.. i never noticed before because he always has the case on it, but his name is enscribed on the back.. So he will be willing to let it go for 165 shipped, a pretty good deal.. I believe the name could be polished out if it really bothers you..

VW's spots were both brilliant! The Beetle one was great and the Darth Vader Kid was funny, too. The Audi ones were a bit long, funny, but you really have to want to watch them. I know they're teasers, but I couldn't even finish the Kenny G one. I will say I chuckled a bit at the first Scared Straight one when the guy said he has enough money to bring the stuffed bear back to life. Great line!
Agreed, the VW ones are awesome! The Audi, not so much.

When MS bought vPC I figured that was the beginning of the end. They have a history of destroying great Mac products.

History Will Write :
1) The mistake was Microsoft competing with the Creative Zen (remember it).
2) The result is Microsoft killed both products;
3) The Zen had the market share (US and Internationally)
4) MS entered late, never really in the international marketplace, US only.
5) Both competing with the iPod that was global, was a mistake.
What's the Zen?
Regardless... Zune software was a completely different and BETTER (remember it) experience than iTunes.
Here's hoping Apple gets off their money-grubbing a$$es and strips away the bloat from iTunes. it's an absolutely horrible platform which they are using for anything and everything. Bad move Apple. It's like Apple is consulting with Ballmer on how NOT to innovate with iTunes.

I was a freshman in high school. I was just getting off the bus in the morning when i heard these exact words on the radio "...oh my god! A second plane has just hit the second world trade center building"
i kinda walked on into class in shock until 1st period started. The teacher had the tv on when we came in. We watched the first and the second towers fall. We watched the people running from the cloud of dust and debris be overtaken by it. Thats about all we did that day.
I didn't know anyone from New York so i wasn't personally affected. I offer my condolences to those of you who did lose someone.

I'll tell you what I've told everybody, this is not an AT&T problem. I have the Atrix and I have NEVER dropped a call in Saint Louis. My wife's Samsung Focus never has dropped a call in six months either. My friend has the iPhone 4 and another has the 3GS in Saint Louis and they CONSTANTLY cannot connect Call Failed or drop calls.
It's the iPhone man.
/rant
I have to disagree with this comment, its not the Iphone man is USA's Networks. over here in england i have had no dropped calls (not a single one) beit the Iphone 3GS, 3G or 4 not a single dropped call and i am sure the majority of Iphone users here would state this.

Hopefully it doesn't rain.
Cool, I'll update soon. Probably leaving in 20 minutes for Walmart to buy some supplies then off to the Apple store.
Yea, it is really Windy in Brigham City now and the Weather report says 70% Precipitation and a chance of Snow tonight with freezing temps.
This is going to play into the "Tonight or Tomorrow" showing up. It's so difficult to decide, Need to bring a Portable heater if I do.

I am debating the purchase of a Mac Pro. I will buy three drives in addtion to the stock 1 TB. Furthermore, I like to take pictures with my point and shoot. Curently, I have around 10-12 GB of photos and less than one GB of videos. The plan is to buy an entry level dslr later this year, which leads to my question.
How large of a hard drive should I buy? Will 500-750 GB suffice? I will SHARE the hard drive with other saved data too. Is this a problem?
I know this question is subjective, but bare with me! I figure filling up a 320 GB drive than buying another drive will get old fast. Of course, assuming I take that many photos. Maybe the 320 is a good option? Nonetheless, all suggestions are appreciated.

Either way, they seem to be alright value and about as good as any other 240GB 6G drive on the market now. I was going to get an OCz but after reading an OWC article on how OCz supposedly uses off-spec NAND chips it really put me off the idea :)
I'd skip the OCZ drives from what I've seen as well.
I believe I have found a place to source some X5690 for cheap, but they are being pulled from an Dell R710 server. Have you any idea if the chip design for the Dell R710 is the same as retail or altered somehow/specific like the HP DP X5690 with a different IHS etc.. like in the below link?
http://www.buy.com/prod/hp-xeon-dp-x5690-3-46-ghz-processor-upgrade-socket-b-lga-1366-hexa/q/loc/101/220240015.html
AFIAK, they're standard (come with an IHS). The photo of the HP P/N supports this as well (standard part, as sold as OEM or Retail).
The only one that immediately comes to mind (no IHS), is with the 55xx parts Apple used in 2009 DP systems. They went to standard parts with the 56xx used on the 2010 DP systems (standard OEM parts with the IHS, and added the latch cover to the socket as Intel designed it). I suspect skipping the latch cover and using naked parts was a failed attempt (by Foxconn actually) at cutting costs, but did away with it due to defect rates from bent pins during the assembly process "eating" those savings due to the expense of rework and waste.

although it seems to me that in other threads, the extra-wide posts don't stretch the others with them, but rather expand independently... yes? no?

Btw,
Here's what the noads version looks like
http://www.macrumors.com/downloads/noads.jpg
for those who contributed. I'm not really pushing the contributions at this time... since some of the features of it will be changing with the new forums.
At the basics, you get a no ad front-page and page2.

I've noticed in the last day that all the links on the left and topics on the right are now in italics (and they maybe bold as well). I use opera & explorer here, and I'm not sure how it looks on safari, but it's hard to read on both of those browsers.

Awesome thanks I was hoping for it to be cheaper or a free download but ya right it's mac.
Hey I just read the comments, and it says that I need 10.1 can't i just get 10.2 and upgrade from 9.2.2?
Sorry that you can't pirate Mac OSes as easily as some others...You should be able to upgrade directly to 10.2, I did with my 266 G3 running 9.2.2.

I got my wife/daughter a mini about a month ago and started on my search of monitors. Where they have the computer, there is just not room for a 24" (I was going to wait and give them my Dell 2409 (1920x1200) when I get my new iMac.), but it was too tall. So I was limited at most to a 23". I was not able to find a 23" 1920x1200, but I did find plenty of 1920x1080's and ended up with a nice Samsung LED for about $280. I intially bought the LG, but the stand was so flimsy I took it back.
You might want to check out the Dell Outlet and see what they have. A 2410(1920x1200) refurb might be had at your budget.

I'm freakin sick of the ITMS.
I love iTunes and my iPod, but purchasing music that can only be put on an iPod is crap. There may be a better player out later which I want to go to and then *poof* my ITMS purchased tracks are crap.

It's (significantly) cheaper.
It's better.
'Nuff said.
