Many jumping ship - I know a few who say the only complaint with their AT&T iPhone is the dropped voice calls...

    I don't have that problem - on T-Mobile, of course... ;)

I posted a similar thread though I'm looking for a new cam under $1,000 except I use FC. I have been using miniDV tapes for my transfers and have only used a simple SD Camera a few times, where I bring in videos one clip at a time to FC.
Just looking for a good site that can help me out with my choice or maybe someone who has bought a new video camera lately in that price range and has some input.
Here's what I'm looking for in my new camera

Good lowlight (I like to get shots without spontaneously, so I don't have to turn every light on)
    - Lots of moving around so great stabilizer
    - portability
    - hard drive and SD card, incase I fill up the hard drive
-1080p would be nice, though of course not needed
    - good a shooting speed shots such as sport shots, and dogs ( yeah I'm one of those who video tapes there dogs and YouTube it, why lowlight is important)

I want to get a pro camera but do not have the money, plus the add ons get really pricey. I can just rent a pro cam or borrow one when needed. I read more about pro cams them your typical consumer cam and just want the best cam for FC, and my small list above.
Thanks for any sites I may not have checked. Plus consumer reports have been limited in what I read, nor am I fan of reviews on best buys site, just using them as example.

thanks, hex monkey, for the link! strangely (or perhaps not so strangely?!), when you download and use wtpro, they explicitly state that it is *not* free software and that it must be registered within 30 days...no mention of free functionality...alas...

I downloaded some games for my Android phone. Doesn't mean I play them. I'm sorry, but having a controller is a very serious must.

On another note not related to the above comment, I would like to read the comments from those who have never played video games on this site. Since it's something that I've been exposed to for so long, it's interesting to see how ignorant people tend to sound when they speak of things they are not familiar with.

This is good but they need to be better about how they treat the developers. The also need to figure out how to better organize the app store. They should have a wishlist and reccomendations.

They already have both of those.

I can't say that I'm at all surprised. First the idea of the subscription based model doesn't really fly when you can have the music with iTunes.

The zune was too little too late, they entered the market just as the iPod was peaking. Now that most of the functionality if in the phones, there is no demand.

As I posted in a more obscure thread,

Never forget that the zune brought us this:

I still find it a little disturbing but I think it's also possibly the single funniest thing I've ever seen involving Microsoft.

Every time I see this picture, I think of one of two things:

There's a bug which prevents OpenGL in the game from working in full-screen mode on Intel Macs. I think it works in windowed mode. Blizzard said they were going to fix that bug but I don't believe they have yet.

If the majority of this forum (not adressing or insulting you) would take of their Apple glasses, they would see the reality or at least the potential of the Windows Phone. I love my mac, but I am not biased to some cult.

    Pot meet kettle.

We can summarize your post simply as "I own a WP7 device and I love it." (which is great) The rest of it seems to be of the same ilk which criticize others.

Microsoft has announced that it has halted development on a universal version of VirtualPC.

VirtualPC has long-been the king of the hill for Virtualization on Macintosh. With the Intel transition, however, came competitive pressure from Parallels (http://www.parallels.com/en/products/desktop/), which has since released the final version of its product, and VMWare which is showcasing a beta (http://www.macrumors.com/pages/2006/08/20060805151513.shtml) of its solution at WWDC.

Microsoft has claimed that to port VirtualPC to Intel would be much like making VirtualPC 1.0 all over again.

    Digg This (http://digg.com/apple/Microsoft_Officially_Kills_Virtual_PC)

As a Powerbook G4 User, VPC was all of unusable, really slow. I know that it has (had ?) to emulate an entire Hardware platform, but knowing how much bloatware M$ produce, I am sure it could have been a hell of a lot faster if it was coded better. I know that M$ purchased this software from Connectix, but successive versions gained features and lost speed !

Having Apache running on your computer, and the appropriate ports open on your firewall does theoretically make your computer more vulnerable, but in reality it's definitely not a "sure fire way to get hacked". As long as you take appropriate security measures, like having your firewall set up correctly and turning off things such as Server Signature your chances of getting hacked are quite slim. Apache is what powers a large portion of websites across the world, and if it in itself was that vulnerable websites would go down a lot.

Having a dynamic IP will greatly decrease your chances of getting hacked, as well, because it will change each time your modem gets reset, making your virtually un-findable for any would-be hackers. (Unless you use some sort of DynDNS service that is).

I agree with some parts of what you stated. For starters, if you use Apple's supplied version of Apache (I'm not sure what they currently ship), then you are stuck with that version until they supply any patches for it.

As for ServerSignature, that's fairly useless, as that's considered security by obscurity. You can hide the server you are running, but there are still ways to figure out what server you have.

Also, having a dynamic IP may prevent an individual hacker, but does nothing for bots and worms. Most of the major worms scan entire subnets, so merely having an open port increases your vulnerability.

In the advent of "smarter" smartphones I see no need for portable systems (for me at least).
Nintendo and Sony should take note (with the Xperia Play it seems at least Sony* have already).

Awesome! Streaming live news should be the future. AT&T need not worry because nobody is going to sit there and watch it all day long. People will only check it out every once in a while. Excellent feature. I just hope NPR's servers are ready to handle the traffic if there is a major, major breaking news event and everyone rushes to view the live stream at the same time.

I still hope Apple adds and AM/FM radio to the next iPhone, so we can also listen to breaking news on the radio if the streaming does not work.

    Yes, they have a booth.

No, I didn't go in - I would have yelled at some poor booth drone about the sorry state of QuickBooks for Mac for a good 45 minutes if I had.

Another company that has turned a cold shoulder towards the Mac recently who supposedly has a booth this year (though I must have not seen it in the West Hall yesterday): EMC Insignia. I need to go back to the show, track down their booth, and yell at one of their poor booth drones about the sorry state of Retrospect for Mac. :D

Did you bother to read the thread before you posted?

Just a couple of thoughts (background... I shoot a 5DII, have 750GB of images, and have a MacPro with 6.5TB of internal storage + external no-caddy drive bays for backups).

Don't buy 350/500GB drives. They're older technology, and they're no longer the most cost effective in terms of GB/$.

The sweet spot for GB/$ is in the larger disks - 1TB to 2TB - and these disks will also be faster, as the data is packed tighter on the disk surface. You'll read more bits off the platter for every disk revolution.

Make sure you have a good backup strategy in place - and design that from the very beginning. Back up to external drives and try and keep a copy offsite. I also use an internal partition as a TimeMachine disk - just for my boot drive.

Edit. Oh yes... one more thing. RAID IS NOT A BACKUP... and don't trust anyone who tells you it is. RAID will ONLY protect you against disk crashes, NOT against accidental deletion, theft, water damage, electrical glitches, virus action, fire, accidental damage which together are more likely than a disk crash. To be safe, you need three copies of data, one of which should be in a separate location.
