Guess what... I already have to get my PB repaired. Yay ! :(
Basically I have an iffy keyboard... It sucks. The tab button is obnoxiously loud and my "I" fails to respond if pressed in the wrong angle and my right arrow is ever-so-slightly above the rest of the other keys. Also my PB fails to play audio from its speakers if headphones are inserted, then removed. I have to half-insert, and remove the headphones to get my audio back... Ugh...
I plan to go to the SF Apple store in person.
So the questions:
Will Apple repair it on the spot?
If they have to send it back, how long would that take? And would I have to pick it back up in person, or do I have to go there?
Is the faulty headphone port attatched to the logic board? If so, would this mean a that I'd need to get another one? I don't like the idea of getting a refurbished board... So I hope not.
Would these issues warrent an entire HD backup?
If so, my other computer is a PC, with 128GB free (It has 2 HDs, one is 80GB (50 GB free), and the other is 200GB, 128 free [Slave drive]). This means its formatted as NTFS... How would I go about backing up my entire Mac HD?
I can't believe I already have to go through this. I got my PB around the end of may...

I've installed a bunch of new Win7 machines over the last days, including Macs, and all installed and updated to SP1 just fine.
Hmm... I wonder why it won't let me update then. I left it on the "installing updates" status for like 4 hours and it was still at 0%. I'll try again tonight.

The whole resolution independance thing terrifies me. I just know we'll see some vendor or Apple have these annoying huge UI's that we can't shrink back down to their proper size. I mean the reason we buy this huge monitors is to shrink the UI and maximize free space right???

Try another Firewire cable or another computer to see if the one that you have is OK. The camcorder needs to be switched to the playback position. Have you got iMovie to try?

Also, I'm considering getting a 17" MBP (soon, I'd like to wait for a refresh but the money isn't coming out of my personal coffers); what is your feeling about it pumping out HD content to a 30" ACD? The ACD would actually be for home use with the MBP. How does it perform pushing HD content?

i'm planning to upgrade out of both a 2.0 coreduo MBP and dual 2gig G5 PM into a single 17" 2.6/8 hi-res MBP and add a 30" monitor to that for home use. If the 17's internal monitor is respectably accurate for printwork, obviously I'll be able to save a few sheckels on the 30" by going HP (enclosure elegance be damned); on the other hand, if the 17 is not accurate it'll make more sense to spend the dough on an ACD.

Competition regulation in many EU countries require apple (or providers) to unlock any handsent with some restrictions (you may have to prove you've waited a certain time, or you are required to pay a fee etc), but I know that in France for example the provider that sells the iPhone there is required to unlock any handsent provided it was sold at least 6 months ago, for a 100 euros. Even if it wasn't bought/sold in France.
Some countries like Belgium don't even allow sim locked phones (or used to not allow) and some carriers sell them with out sim lock by choice in others, like Slovakia, and then some other countries I think can only unlock phones that are locked to a certain providers network, like Hungary T and Voda I think can only unlock T and Voda iPhones respectively, but perhaps phones bought on other networks (Ie T-mobile Germany, or Voda UK or New Zealand or whatever) some of these services maybe taking advantage of these work arounds. If this is the case, these unlocks are legal and Apple has no legal way of relocking these phones. IE in france they HAVE to unlock your phone even if it is ATT... or one would think so logically. Go look at Pages; Word's been the "standard" for years and Pages can write Word documents. I'm sure if Lasso, Numbers, Charts, etc. will also be able to save in Excel documents. I believe AppleWorks can, and if this is a step up, and since the world has moved a little more, there should be no problem with Excel and Apple's new application.
Sorry, but Excel running on Windows (and to a lesser extend, Macs) is by far the standard, and for good reason. It runs wonderfully, on fast and horrendously slow computers.
I've been using Google Spreadsheets to some degree, and while it's kinda cool with the whole online thing, it's slow, lags, and not as good as Excel. Nobody's going to go to a class to learn Google Spreadsheets, they're going to learn Excel in school.

Hi diddly-ho neighbors- Alright- I have had PCs until recently and switched over to Macs. I now have 3 macs! Geez, I am crazy! Well, my ipod wants music and I want to make my new ipod happy so where is the best place that isn't expensive to download music for a mac user? Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks a bunch.

Are you using the 5Ghz band? It has a poorer range then 2.4Ghz and it doesn't like walls very much. 10 meters, about 30 feet, is enough distance to make the overall throughput drop to those levels.

there is no buttons in finder to copy, cut & paste! :( I can not find them ! where they are ?
You can find them in the "edit" menu in Finder. OS X doesn't allow you to "Cut & Paste" files, however, so the Cut option may be greyed out.
If you want to move files, best way is to drag them or CMD+drag them to move to another drive

Is this something specifically to do with the Areca 1880 series cards and the Mac Pro 2010 or does this ring true for all other 3rd party RAID controllers?
It's true for any 3rd party RAID controller. It's also true for software based configurations (SATA or SAS ports + software and system resources).
When you previously said this is because one does not have access to firmware/EFI settings and can't change the boot device I am wondering why this is required, wouldn't there be a loader\boot menu that one can bring up? How would I then select between the primary OSX install on SSD1/Areca and Win 7 on SSD2/ICH if there wasn't a boot menu? Or is it simply some kind of limitation that will not allow the Mac Pro to detect and display in the boot menu stage any drives attached to the Areca controller other than the one that was set as boot drive in OSX?

In the file menu, I now have an option (greyed out) for Transfer purchases from iPod...not sure what that means given you can't currently buy stuff direct from your iPod...and pretty sure it wasn't there in Itunes 6...sounds intriguing though!
Also - there a custom option for encoding rates from CD that takes you up to 320 kbps for AAC - can't remember that either in the previous version...

you could buy your self a semi decent set of speakers and just use your comp and itunes? that i all i do at uni and it works a treat. try taking a look at the jbl creatures

Thinner than the incase book jacket but lighter than the yoobao slim. It's a nice mix of both.
