Yeh, I think last time it was something like 28 days...
Either way, it hasn't got anything to do with stingy; let us say for the sake of argument that I purchased a Dell computer today, and vista is released on 1st February. Surely you're not expecting Dell to ship you Vista free? No Way - it's not good business sense.
Apple Hardware and Software probably have different division headings so you can't argue that the above analysis is not viable.
For them to hand out free copies of Leopard because someone bought Tiger a week before Leopard was launched. Is not much of a big deal for them as the only money they will lose out on is the cost of the packaging, postage and the physical disks. About 5? To keep you sweet so you purchase further products and remain loyal 5 is nothing. Its probably less than that! :) To duplicate another copy of Leopard to replace the one given away will be miniscule.

ok, but you do realize its "iPod", and not "IPod"; right?
I think in an ad trying to be consistent with apples designs should at least be capitalized properly.
I was trying to keep mine distanced from the official versions - so comics sans and the 'IPod' are my own quirks.

I was at work yesterday installing some ram into a new eMac and I quickly ran the 'Apple Hardware test kit' over it...
Under one of the Panels in the test kit it has a BATTERY section.. marked 'Right' and 'Left'
However, no models of Apple Laptop/dekstop computer have been available with Dual batteries until well after these Test Kits surfaced years ago now.
I suggest you try on your iMac or eMac with test kit 1.2.1 (this is what i used).. Its under the profiler tab on the top right...
Interesting huh.. I doubt this was left in accidently, as the last powerbook that support two batts, (The PISMO) never came with the Test Kits...

Apple's in distribution. But don't worry - it's not alone. (Oh, um - maybe THAT means 'worry', too.)

Also, what exactly is 'innacurate' with my thread?
Well, considering you don't seem to understand that once your income is taxed, it is yours to keep, until you choose to spend it, at which time you might owe sales or use taxes.
Your fundamental misunderstanding of how taxes work makes this poll silly. You think taxes are imposed on what you've earned, when point of fact, the cost of doing business (i.e. earning money) is the tax rate, and you get to keep everything post-taxes.
I'm not aware of any income "tax" on your accumulated wealth. Any such tax would not be an "income" tax.
Exactly, taxes are the price you pay for living in a stable society, therefore those who society has allowed to become rich owe some of that back to society in order to give other people the chance to succeed.
And 5P, if people are really able to become wealthy without government providing regulation and a stable, secure environment then why doesn't Somalia have any Billionaires? It's basically your no government paradise.
Actually, I don't care how much money they have after taxes, or if they are able to accumulate billions, but I think those who have high incomes, should pay a higher tax rate, and I think we need to reform our estate tax system to eliminate the floor (or dramatically reduce it), and increase the tax rates to something closer to ordinary income.

I'm not sure if this has been posted before, but I just saw this (http://xlr8yourmac.com/archives/oct02/103002.html#S14660) article yesterday at XLR8yourmac.com
Info on Non-Pioneer Superdrive in recent iMac G4s (DVD-R/-RW plus DVD-RAM?) About a month or so ago I had heard that some new iMac G4s had non-Pioneer DVD-R/RW drives - a reader with one of these just sent an email with more info:
" Hey Mike ...
Just wanted to let you know that Apple has changed the SuperDrive in the latest shipping iMacs. I just bought a 17" iMac LCD straight from Apple's Developer Connection (we're Select developers at work) and I was surprised to see that Mac OS 9.2.2's Apple System Profiler identified the drive as
-------------------------------------------------------------------
DVD-R/CD-RW
Driver version: 1.4.8
Mac OS partitions: 0
Removable media: Yes
Vendor: HL-DT-ST
Revision Number: D02D
Product ID: DVD-RW GCA-4020B
Apple disc burning: Supported
-------------------------------------------------------------------
Depending on who you believe, "HL-DT-ST" is either Hitachi or GoldStar in Korea - I'm not sure which.
A few Google searches revealed that this drive does DVD-R, DVD-RW *and* DVD-RAM! And, supposedly, the CD-R burning speeds are 12x, which is apparently faster than the previous Pioneer SuperDrives. (I can't personally verify this myself, not knowing the specs of the Pioneer A03/A04)
(Pioneer DVR-104/A04 and 103/A04 have a 8x/4x max (CDR/CDRW) burn speed rating.-Mike)
The only place I could find on the Mac Web that mentioned this new development is a 5-day old article on MacWelt.DE, the German Mac site.
Regards,
- Greg E"
About a dozen readers wrote in reply to this post mentioning LG or Hitachi links, etc. - another iMac G4 owner sent info from the label on the drive:
"FYI, I'll read off the label on a superdrive taken out of 17" iMac delivered approx. 3 weeks ago (yep, I've opened the iMac to take a closer look):
HL Data Storage
CD-RW / DVD-R/RW DRIVE
MODEL No. GCA-4020B
DRIVE REV. A1
manufactured SEPTEMBER 2002
Hitachi-LG Data Storage, Inc.
(...), Tokyo, Japan
MADE IN JAPAN
I tried to look up tech. specs of this GCA-4020B on the web, but got nowhere so far.
Cheers,
Jan"

[QUOTE=globalhemp]Yeah and Disney is shut down the service after 8 months with little or no interest in the service. And is going to cost them $30 million to shut it down. As a Disney and Apple sharehold I think it is a bad business model to be in.
Shutting down eh?
I would have thought that if Apple was getting into the MVNO business, they'd have been better off doing a joint venture with Disney. Ah well. Which network is Disney using anyway?

Using GSP and Iphoto only makes sense if the photo's have the GSP location information as part of the photo. So that mean that the Camera taking the picture has a GSP reciever in it, which is great outside, but GPS does not work indoors
Yeah, that, and this would work better for world travellers. Who wants to see a map where every photo points to the same house or area? In many ways it's a pointless feature, but in some cases it will be a lot of fun, such as vacation photos. :)

I thought the Play and Charge Kit doubles as a USB cable for the controller...
no. it allows you to play whilst your charging. it does not convert your controller into a wired controller - all the usb is doing is sending power.

Microphone and cellular radio... sounds like a cell phone to me...
Add a camera, it's hard to find a cell phone without one these days...
GPS? Yep, most of them have that too, can't find a Sprint one without it.
Hmmm, sounds like a pretty standard cell phone complement, why not add the geo-coordinates to the EXIF data when taking a picture. I think this takes about 3 lines of code and makes sense... most cell phone makers could add this in a firmware update.

I'm freakin sick of the ITMS.
I love iTunes and my iPod, but purchasing music that can only be put on an iPod is crap. There may be a better player out later which I want to go to and then *poof* my ITMS purchased tracks are crap.
www.allofmp3.com
It's (significantly) cheaper.
It's better.
'Nuff said.
AllofMP3 is exactly how all music selling sites should be. The possibility to choose exact what quality you want is great, no DRM is great, the price is of course also great.
If only the artists would get paid it would be perfect.

Seriously, all you folks who are saying this and that about the bezel control (i.e. Every time I touch it I'll adjust the volume, or change my ringtone... blah, blah...), do you really think Apple would release it's "next big thing" without making sure it worked perfectly, intuitively, and didn't just go completely haywire every time you touch it or bump it?
For crying out loud, the company's future depends in no small part on the iPod, I'm fairly certain Apple's going to make sure each successive iPod is as innovative and market-dominating as the rest of the line has been. THat includes ease-of-use.
Have a little faith, here. You see one patent filing and freak out. Sheesh.
I agree with you.
Whatever Apple's introduce will be clever and easy to use. Remember that's their core philosophy, That's why I am not worrying too much.
I am skeptical of this patent. I believe Apple did patent the above, but they do that all the time to protect their ideas. That doesn't mean it's going to be the final product like that.
The only thing I can certain say is that the video iPod will be here soon. I hope before xmas. If not then at MWSF.

It wont make a difference to from MP3 to AIFF.
To me it sounds like you have some custom equalizer setting in iTunes to boost the bass because afaik it's a straight conversion that Garageband does, ie. what is in the MP3 file gets converted to AIFF. But if you want you can open the MP3 file in Audacity and export it as AIFF and see if there's any difference.

Not everyone agrees, do they? Many Mac "fanatics" prefer Word. This one prefers Pages.
I like Pages for small documents (<20 pages). It has very crisp text display and it is quite nippy in use. The exposed features are quite comprehensive in a single-user environment and the application is quite fun to use. I have yet to try Mellel's word processor however, that is meant to be very good.
It certainly doesn't have the quirks of Word, but it has its own quirks that can be very annoying. For example it wants to be Page Oriented, but then acts like a word processor within each Page, allowing you to have multi-page Pages (that the page template doesn't apply to). WTF?! I admit I didn't get iWork the upgrades didn't seem worthwhile. Hopefully iWork 2007 will be more tempting.
OpenOffice.org and NeoOffice/J are slow clunky embarrassments to open source. AbiWord, Gnumeric, etc, are far nippier (although the former is barely a word processor).
KeyNote is, of course, awesome. However there needs to be a KeyNote viewer application for Windows (and Mac), PowerPoint export isn't ideal, and QuickTime is a bulky tradeoff.

I have the matte too. I really like it. I haven't noticed any sagging, but I have already broken one of the outer rings taking it out of my pocket. However, I like the option of switching out rings for different color options. As far as protection, I haven't tried the Otterbox, but I've dropped my phone a few times & haven't gotten as much as a scratch.
Hope this helps & good luck.

From your desktop can you ping 192.168.2.2 and from the laptop ping 192.168.2.1?
From the diagram and your description, the laptop doesn't have a wireless connection. So it's a bit puzzling when you say it keeps trying to use the wireless. How are you trying to copy files, using Finder? Try scp'ing using the ip addresses you gave, if the pings work.
BTW, I've got my laptop with a 192.x.x.x address for the wired connection, and a 10.x.x.x address for the wireless. It's having no problems seeing both networks.
