I have been waiting for a major upgrade to the cinema displays since I got my laptop in June 2006 - since waiting like the rest of you.
I wonder if eventually the iMac will be thinner than the current cinema displays, then they will have to upgrade.
To be honest, it doesn't need to be a major upgrade, take the price down by a third and half the thickness of the screen and I would be happy.
One day my friends...one day
Actually, the new Aluminum iMacs are skinnier than the current ACDs.

Either way, they seem to be alright value and about as good as any other 240GB 6G drive on the market now. I was going to get an OCz but after reading an OWC article on how OCz supposedly uses off-spec NAND chips it really put me off the idea :)
I'd skip the OCZ drives from what I've seen as well.
I believe I have found a place to source some X5690 for cheap, but they are being pulled from an Dell R710 server. Have you any idea if the chip design for the Dell R710 is the same as retail or altered somehow/specific like the HP DP X5690 with a different IHS etc.. like in the below link?
http://www.buy.com/prod/hp-xeon-dp-x5690-3-46-ghz-processor-upgrade-socket-b-lga-1366-hexa/q/loc/101/220240015.html
AFIAK, they're standard (come with an IHS). The photo of the HP P/N supports this as well (standard part, as sold as OEM or Retail).
The only one that immediately comes to mind (no IHS), is with the 55xx parts Apple used in 2009 DP systems. They went to standard parts with the 56xx used on the 2010 DP systems (standard OEM parts with the IHS, and added the latch cover to the socket as Intel designed it). I suspect skipping the latch cover and using naked parts was a failed attempt (by Foxconn actually) at cutting costs, but did away with it due to defect rates from bent pins during the assembly process "eating" those savings due to the expense of rework and waste.

I guess when you line up might depend on what model you want. Example; 16GB wifi will go out fast but they probably have more in stock..
I don't need one friday, but I'm wondering if friday night or saturday morning they'll still have a 16GB Verizon model and how long the wait would be to get in and purchase one.
Has anyone called the store to ask details of the launch?

I used to have a Palm m500, my brother has a Zire 71, my dad has a Tungsten E, and none of us feel they were worth buying. Honestly, I'd just use a cell phone for mobile use. My Nokia N-Gage QD was free with a new plan in February, and it syncs with iCal and Address Book perfectly over Bluetooth using iSync. No drivers are needed, either: OS X automatically sends an iSync agent to the phone, it gets installed, and everything works perfectly. If I needed, I could install any number of Symbian OS applications on my phone and it would do just about everything a Palm could. Inputing new data on the go would be more painstaking, though.

Annoy?? Can a phone refresh REALLY annoy somebody? If your answer is YES then you have no life and sorry to say you're just a kid with issues.
There is a thing called context to a post
Someone posted "this will annoy AT&T and Version customers" if a phone is launched within a few months of the previous one. I stated that releasing a new product within a few months of the rollout of the product worldwide would annoy customers everywhere not just in the US.
It was supposed to be a small joke about how everyone thinks only the US exists when it comes to any technology item.
I don't think I would scream and yell but if I bought this years model of phone and within 3 months Apple replaced it with a brand new much higher spec model then yes I would be mildly annoyed as usually Apple don't update their high end model in under 6 months with a brand new model. I could see lots of people being annoyed by that. And even more to the point these annoyed people would be from all over the world not just AT&T or Verison customers.

Well I may just be a fool but I thought that all WD hdds had the same connector pins. I've just taken apart my mbp only to find the (SATA?) connector inside is a different type than the WD's.
I'm just curious is there something I was missing that should have warned me that this would happen? Is there a way I can modify the WD so that I can make it my internal HDD?
That's all I really want.
My MBP:
15 inch Unibody (late 2008)
My WD:
WD10TMVV
I think this is it but mine is black.
http://www.wdc.com/en/products/products.aspx?id=450
Thank you in advance!
On a side note this is an extremely solid external drive and I recommend it to anyone who needs a reliable terrabyte.

I played with this idea a year or two ago when an application came out that allowed you to add a peice of text as a contact. Plain text was easy just split it up and feed it in. But unfortunately in my original Ipod if you have any more than a page or two of text in a contact it scrolls really slowly... Slower than I can read. I then looked in to the documentation of formating text on a ipod with perhaps writing a converter from rtf as I had dozen or so ebooks in the format, Uggh!. In the end I decided haveing a ebook as 200 contacts and with a lot of work to get it formated on a tiny screen was way to hard and Took a laptop on holiday instead:)
Still have a couple of ebooks on my ipod and I still havent read 1 of them.

Well, you can download it: http://www.felttip.com/products/soundstudio/
But you won't have a license for it, which is contained in the install on the other mac (you get a license to the app through the Apple s/w bundle). If you wanted to subvert that, it's pretty easy to figure out, so I'll let you do it yourself.

I can't believe 3G is new for the Americans.
Land of the free indeed....:p
Yep, free to use a phone as a phone. I travel a lot to Europe and therefore do have T-mobile for GSM compatibility but overall the main difference I find is cultural - in the US many many more people use the phone as a phone only, which is my preference as well. I want a very small phone and therefore there is no way I would use the screen and/or keypad for anything but a phone. 3G has no real appeal for me and the cost of phone service in Europe I now find attrociously expensive, even if I get local sims. It is so expensive to call between countries. I assume this is to support 3G/WAP/etc. for which I have no use.

Looks like p0sixninja just challenged Geohot to see who could dump the iPad 2 bootrom first, in which Geohot accepted as said by p0sixninja's Twitter.

I just bought a Tibook from the Apple Retail Store on the 19th and I have just noticed that I have a stuck/dead pixel. It is on the far left side of the screen and it is green in color. The good part is that it is virually invisable, unless that part of the screen is black. However, it is very annoying when say I'm watching a DVD or I'm watching a slide show of my picutes in iPhoto. This notebook is not even a week old. What should I do? Should I go back to the store and demand a replacement? Would they even give me one? I think that the minimum number of pixels that would fall under warrenty is like 6 or 7 right? But this thing is brand new....shouldn't there be a speacial case for defective products that are brand new? I mean what would stop me from just returning it at the Apple store, and then just reordering it from the online store?? With that logic, shouldn't they just give me a straight up trade if they sold me a defective product??

Now the Mac app store is up and moving along with Apples own iLife suite apps, would people prefer buying them separately from the app store. or buying the retail box. ?

Apple offers a 700MHz iMac for $499, and a 800Mhz iMac for $520.
Right now they are sold out, but a new batch of them will come in eventually.
But I agree that they shouldn't discontinue g4 emacs with the release of the G5 iMac.

I loved my Zune until MS took forever to fix the issue on W7x64 so I got an ipod instead about 15 months ago... I prefer the Zune software though since I like everything album/artist based with pretty images rather than itunes. :)
Since then I started using media monkey bc I hate itunes, but had to install it for my ipad.
Either way MS marketed the Zune poorly and took too long to fix stupid issues like "HEY I CAN'T SYNC FROM MY ZUNE TO W7!"... ugh

Do you make money with that machine?
I use a 2009 MBP (17") and upgraded the RAM to 6GB (more will follow) and an SSD and it is quite a snappy machine in PS CS5 with 12MP RAW photos. An ix-core MBP will be faster in calculating effects, thus if you do a lot of effects work that take five seconds on your current MBP, they will take two to three seconds on a newer MBP.

How much did you pay for it?
I ask as you can get an aluminum enclosure for about $12 from Rosewill that is far better than the one used on the Passport, and a Western Digital Scorpio Blue or Black, which are farrrrrr better drives in terms of reliability and speed. For $120, you can build a drive with a 750GB Scorpio Black, which IMO is the best HDD on the market that is reasonably priced, and many people here will testify to their quality and speed. Add 15-20 bucks and the enclosure can have FW as well as USB2. As much as I love WD, I HATE the Passports and have not been happy with their overall reliability.

Can someone tell me why the Mac is so finicky about what kind of memory you upgrade with?
I have been ok with Corsair 8gb upgrade memory, which many on this forum had suggested, for a while but noticed lately that I am getting the dreaded restart box lockup when I am trying to back up with time machine a ways into the process.
I put the OEM 4gb back in and it is working ok.
Can someone explain to me why it passes 30 minutes of memory testing on Techtools Pro software but freezes once in while on handbrake video encoding and always on the backup???
Thanks

Can anyone give an estimate, based off of previous releases, as to how long it'll take for a public release? I can't be the only one itching to jailbreak my iPad2.
I'm no expert, but it's a user land exploit which is in the firmware itself. Jailbreaks on other iDevices are hardware which means Jailbreakable for life.
It's most likely going to be at jailbreakme.com, which is a .PDF used to exploit. So I guess a few days at most. It's not going to be a program like Redsn0w or pwnagetool.
So it should be pretty quick.
I don't understand why everyone is getting so mad. It got moved, chill out.

Hey everyone!
What is the HTML tag for a comment box, I thought it was this:
<form action="/html/tags/html_form_tag_action. method="get">
Comments:</br>
<textarea rows="3" cols="20"></textarea>
<input type="submit" value="Submit" />
</form>
But it does not work when saved as .html. I think I need like a code page or something, but I do not know how to make one, any ideas?
